David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

Erm no, because I'm more of a fan of meritocracy than nepotism.

Fact is he hasn't managed a team of first team professionals in his life and the Premier League is a big step up from the Premier League 2.

We didn't look entirely hopeless for a single half of football but that and winning the league with U23s isn't enough to convince me. If it is for you that is sound but he isn't the most qualified MAN for the job at the moment.

If we can't attract a Tuchel or someone of a similar pedigree of actually winning trophies with senior players then I would not be opposed to having Unsworth be moved into the job. I just don't agree with people seeing him as first choice right now.

That not Nil Satis Nisi Optimum to me.
When did we sign Meritocracy and Nepotism. I cannot keep up with all of the signings lately. Possibly U23s

If we bring in Tuchel mid-season he's managing a squad full of someone else's players. Does Tuchel have ANY experience taking over a team in mid-season and having success? There's a reason guys like Pulis and Allerdyce kept getting hired, because they knew how to do it.

Tuchel is just as big if not a bigger risk than Unsworth at this point. He knows absolutely nothing about any of our players. How long do you think it would take him to get up to speed, when he's never managed in the Prem in his life, and speaks English as a second language?

Tuchel has at least managed a team of senior professionals for more than 2 matches.

Klippety across the park isn't doing too badly and he took over in the middle of October.

Well they're only five points above us at the moment, but while I grant your point, will you grant it's not without risk? Let's not pretend this is a big hire. We need to get it right. If that means giving it to Unsworth to prove himself this season, then what's the harm? Either he impresses and we have our man, or we buy time until May to get the right guy and give him a full Summer window.

When we signed Koeman he didn’t even feature in our original poll, I know Mourinho is doing well and De Boer is gone, I’d be interested to see how the rest on the list are doing.

What does concern me, a little bit, is our last 2 managers, both foreign, both had PL experience. And both were turfed.

I would fret if an unproven foreign manager, as in the PL, and a current flavour of the month, was sampled by us to see if he could hack it. Dunno, might be my general football ignorance outside of L4, but I remain to be convinced that Tuchel (?) for example, would actually be less of a risk than Rhino being handed the reins.

Honestly if you're going to bring someone in from the outside, it's ok if you wait until the summer. In my opinion, that's when you do it.
Right and my concern is that Unsworth might not be the man for the job, but will do just enough to convince the board to stick with him come Summer, preventing us from getting the long term solution.

AKA Shakespeare 2.0

There will be more available candidates after the season is over than there is now though. Most of the really good candidates have jobs right now.

I think there should be less of that "grass is greener" garbage in here and more appreciation for our manager and the team of proper blues around him while he is in charge.

Surely there are better options put there, no need to discuss that. But unsy has done nothing wrong so far, he's been given a chance, and we as Evertonians owe him some great support and appreciation while he takes the unforgiving job of turning this fat-ass aircraft carrier of a messed up team around.

What I don't understand is why people consider Unsworth (who knows the club, the players and the staff) to be a massive risk, yet someone like Tuchel - who has zero experience of the Premier League and probably wouldn't be able to point out Goodison on a map - isn't.

I'm torn at the moment - I'd like to see Unsworth given a run of games to show if he's up to the job of turning the team around.

Know nothing much about Tuchel........but looking up his record on Wiki and being unimpressed.....I'd prefer Rhino !

We've smashed £10m + on paying Martinez off, then paid £6m to get Koeman out of his Southampton contract, then paid what....£2m to get him out of ours? The price of failure eh?

It's a public job interview for Unsworth as I see it, if he does well next few games he'll get to the end of the season at most so options are kept open. We'll court Tuchel, see what he says and probably Dyche too. Can't see Tuchel committing unless he's guaranteed significant funds and how he sees the Walsh role. Can't see us doing another £5m+ managerial salary if it can be avoided.

Board will leave Unsworth in charge whilst the 'scour the world for the worlds best' only we all know it's really treading water hoping results turn under the interim so it saves another expensive outlay in January unless its really become desperate. Hope Unsworth does well, it'll be honest endeavour backed with a real passion for the Club. A good base to start with, hope the players respond and he gets a fair crack.
