David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

Yep sometimes it looked like 4-5-1 but only in the sense that Rooney was 600 miles away from the nearest man but it deffo looked lopsided as Mirallas was not holding any width whatsoever 1st half. Lennon tried to but Kenny was too deep to help make any inroads first half.

I just don't get it at all mate.

Jordan Pickford 6

Didn't have a save to make before picking the ball out of the net for Rudiger's goal and didn't have much to do after it until doing the same with Willian's strike. Has the goalkeeper had a more quiet game in Everton colours?

He had to make one save of note against Stoke, that world-class dive across the goal at the death. He conceded two here.

It's so transparent, just give it to Unsworth, and give it him until at least the end of the season. Rather than this THE DOGS OF WAR ARE BAAAAAAACK LADS!!! rousing routine they are after, it utterly reeks of Kenwright.

The verdict on a heartening Carabao Cup exit to Chelsea

Heartening

Cup

Exit

This sort of drop in standards and taking solace in defeat is what sends decent sized clubs like Forest, Sunderland and others down.

Yes, if we pay him enough.

I am not sure footballers really care about that. They will want to work under good managers because they are generally managing top sides. I don't see a queue of players beating down the door to go and play for Benitez and Newcastle for example.

Possibly, but I also think that fancy dan overseas players and WAGs don’t like being that far from da smoke.

Saw the post match interview with him mate, he stated the plan was to keep the game tight for an hour then McCarthy was a pre planned substitute on the hour designed to coincide with us opening the game up.

It almost worked a treat, and I like the fact he didn't try to do too much too soon like most would have, shows he's aware there's no instant fix.
Regardless of what Chelsea put out, that was - apart from City away or Sours away - the worst match to start out with.

If we get 4 from 6 against Leicester and Watford he should be given more time.

Being serious for a minute, I think you're mistaking the relief and positivity surrounding Unsworth as some sort of messianic worship. If results go sour quickly, he'll be booted back down to the young lads and no mistake. Moshiri won't have anywhere near the sentimentality of our fans, and neither will our fans after a few weeks. But Koeman had to be booted and Unsworth was easily the best interim option available to us.

Throwing money at another coach who sees us as a stepping stone is just as risky as allowing Unsworth to do his thing for a while. Worst case scenario, his results will be as bad as Koeman's, best case scenario, he starts to get some change out of this limited side until we get a striker in January. Personally, I feel the morale boost that comes with the fat Dutch cloud being lifted from Goodison will give us a short term boost for a few months, and then we can consider our options

He's had one training session ffs.

My concern is that you get at every club a bounce when a failing manager leaves . Everybody inside and outside the squad puts more effort in , everybody is that bit happier there is a freshness . My worry would be whether the improved performances in those games would be because of unsworth’s arrival or Koeman’s departure.

Mate I honestly think you've had a mare this past 12 hours.

Nobody is expected to be feeling good about a loss today but the positives to take away were there. What exactly were you expecting from last night?

Blimey, I’m agreeing with you, Dave!

There’s holes and softness all over that squad, but that second half was the best performance of the season so far. Rhino can clearly setup a team, play to strengths and motivate players. You have the u23s who look like they would run through walls for him. 10 more performances like that and the ship will be steady again.
Correct.

The danger, as I see it, is that we choose to look at this season now as something that we can still use in order to push for top 7, so a new boss becomes a tempting solution. That's not where we are. We are in a dogfight for survival and having a united organisation with people playing for each other to get out of this hole is the only game in town.

Only if Unsworth oversees a couple of poor performances in the next two games should we activate any plan to bring in an outsider. The situation is that delicate.

We won 1 in 13 last season and still qualified for Europe, so that's not true.

We need to hold that in reserve: a new manager from outside. We are in a survival fight right now, but we have enough room to move to a plan B after Unsworth if need be.

We need to keep our heads and go through the steps available to us...for me, that means Unsworth gets a run of games before anything hasty happens.

There is just a lot of nervousness and uncertainty around at the moment, if its on here it must be magnified for the players and staff.

Stating the obvious, but we have to go for the win from the off on Sunday, not start and finish settling for a point. Really need to see 90 minutes of fire and fight from the players now, with positivity on the pitch.

Being honest, I am really concerned about our position. I hope and pray Unsworth can have the desired effect, but losing becomes a habit and we absolutely have to get some wins on the board in the league starting on Sunday.

If that doesn't happen, someone else has to be brought in well before Christmas. Otherwise we are playing Russian roulette with our PL status. Games will come and go very quickly and we can and would fall into the mire. I want us to be reasonably clear of the relegation zone by the end of the year not going into the new year with it hanging over us, though without signings its going to be a fight come what may.
