David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

Don't understand the calls for a top manager. What does that even mean?
Well some think Ancelotti,Tunchel, Blanc ones like that are top manager, I'm not even sure they would have a clue how to sort out what Koeman has left, they want to walk into a team already in Europe with a decent squad so much of the work is already done. That's why I'm all for Unsworth getting a run, he knows the place and knows what Everton is all about. Look at Pep and Mourinho walk straight in to teams that are all very good from word go, so how good are they? I bet they wouldn't be very good at say palace or Swansea. We have a half decent squad with lots of gaps due to not buying the right players, but most know we have a good base to start from that's why the likes of Giggs and Neville want a go here. So really a top manager is when someone can do what Ranieri did, but I'd say over the span of 4/5 years, but somehow he achieved the title in very little time then expectations were to high for him, ultimately he paid for his own success.

Frightening that we've gambled on our safety with this man in charge. A defeat at Leicester (expected) should realistically show that we need an experienced man in charge. The situation is far too risky. We cannot continue to lose games in some kind of bizarre experiment on the grounds that he is 'one of us'. Most people are putting Bill to shame with the blue tinted glasses on this.

My fear is we will look at this period as the point where we could have salvaged the situation but made the mistake of appointing Unsworth even if for only a short time.

I agree with all that. But how will a new manager rather than Unsworth make it less the case? DU has the advantage of being able to motivate this lot. Our biggest danger is someone is brought in from outside and the players dont respond...THEN we are in massive trouble.

I'm not violently against a new manager being brought in, but I think we need to give DU a run of games as it will save us that risk, potentially.
Blimey, I’m agreeing with you, Dave!

There’s holes and softness all over that squad, but that second half was the best performance of the season so far. Rhino can clearly setup a team, play to strengths and motivate players. You have the u23s who look like they would run through walls for him. 10 more performances like that and the ship will be steady again.

My preference would be to have Unsworth as an assistant manager, saw last night how beneficial it is to have him involved with the first team; Players look happy and motivated, whilst the younger players have an opportunity to get involved if they're working well. Absolutely love his mentality and if he can get this into the players I think it will be great...

Mate, given the 2nd half last night and the lift Unsie has given the place, I would put my house (or at least 2 pints) on us being in the top half and looking upwards by Christmas

That second half last night has given cause to be optimistic. Most of The Guardian match write up was about us and how positively we played, the winners were barely mentioned till well into the article

Effort, commitment and discipline were back last night. But that's a bare minimum and we should be getting quality this season. Our squad is a shambles and we need injuries back ASAP. The signings are a joke and get worse every time I look at them. Except JP obviously.

Booooooooooooooooooo

Devil’s advocate: would strikers of Giroud’s calibre want to play for David?

Yes, if we pay him enough.

I am not sure footballers really care about that. They will want to work under good managers because they are generally managing top sides. I don't see a queue of players beating down the door to go and play for Benitez and Newcastle for example.
