Wow. He's our best player. Simple as that. Watching us play without him is just awful. Great move, Walsh.

Some of you guys are just insane about Barry. He's completely past it, his lack of pace left us exposed every time he was on the pitch.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Davies should be playing DM so it probably would be helpful to find another. It would be nice if McCarthy got healthy and Besic wasn't awful for one stinking match.

I just don't get where people get this at all. If someone can explain to me.

He gets about more than Barry, and is younger and quicker, but is nowhere near as good a footballer, even at Barry's age.

I don't think he's a terrible player for what it's worth, but comparatively speaking, to what I continue to read and hear, how he's our best player (nonsense), how he's the best DM, or as some would have you believe, Midfielder in the Prem (fantasy), he is simply nowhere near that level.

I'd love for someone to tell me what exactly it is he does that's so exceptional, and what, other than covering a lot of ground (less than Wayne Rooney in some games), it is that sets him apart from the rest. What positive influence he has on the team in the way say a Roy Keane, or Patrick Vieira, or even a Gareth Barry did.

For me, he is an energetic player, with no real charisma or influence, no attacking threat whatsoever, not a great passer, not a great dribbler, not a great tactician, not a great leader, not a great shooter, not even that great a defensive mid, as has been proven on numerous occasions, most recently Saturday.

Just seems like the trendy thing to like him, say how good he is, no questions asked.
And it seems like If enough people say it, it becomes reality.

Well, It's not my reality, and all the tackling stats in the world don't make up for the fact of actually watching him.

How? I thought he gave the ball away loads?

Gueye won more tackles than any other player, and gained possession 21 times in total. Made two interceptions (Schneiderlin was the game's highest with 7).

Gueye also had 92 touches, 11 more than our next highest player Schneiderlin.

Gueye was our top passer with 77 passes, and his passing accuracy was the best in our side at 88%. 48 of those passes were in the opposition's half - again the most in our team.

So basically, he was our best tackler, best player on the ball and he ran 11.32K in total, just less than the player who ran the most for us - Schneiderlin.

And we all - myself included - said those two had crap games :D

Think opta tend to score players points for various actions depending on what there position is mate, unless I'm mistaken, a cb making blocks rated higher than a striker doing the same amount etc.

This particular team is just on certain stats mate.

I've just posted Gueye's stats, and some of Schneiderlin's.

Shows how they can be misleading at times, as I don't think anyone thought Gueye had the best of games!

I reckon it's what I was saying here.

  • Gana/Schneiderlin. I'm not convinced on two defensive midfielders - big fan of Schneiderlin and Gana, so much so I think only one is needed to disrupt play. The game has moved on a fair bit but Vieira, Keane, Essien etc didn't need someone sat beside them in that role. They took accountability for that part of the pitch and did it well. I think having both of them limits us going forward and creates a vacuum.

I think it's part of why Davies is so refreshing - that option to play the ball forward well from a more central position.

Proof if ever needed that football is not a stats game. He had the highest passing accuracy because he refused to attempt any forward passes, so only 88% success rate from 77 simple 5 yard backwards and sideways passes under no pressure is actually really crap.

i think he is off his very very high standard of last year. This is not too much of a surprise, due to the fact that the whole team is sitting 20 yds deeper this year, causing the midfield to never really be in contact with the opposition.
