Playing without a target man

While it is the height of idocey 1) Selling Lukaku 2) Not having deal lined up.

A bit of perspective is needed, we qualified for the CL with Marcus Bent upfront.

Rooney is the second all time goal scorer in the PL, he is basically the same age as Giroud who plenty would have wet their pants for.

I'm not sure what exactly is meant by 'target man' if Lukaku doesn't qualify. We have a tradition of big centre forwards and I'd be much happier if we had signed someone in the mould of Benteke.

Target man needs to be able to hold the ball up and bring others into play.

Lukaku had the touch of a baby elephant.

2005 we got 61 points and finished 4th. 2017 we got 61 points and finished 7th. 61 points will not get us top 4 this season, we need to win lots of games. The point about Rooney which I think most of us would agree is that he would be more effective playing off a front man than he would as a lone striker, this is why the lack of options is so frustrating.

I think between Sigurdsson-DCL and Vlasic-Sandro we could have the potential for some decent link-ups there, and obviously that's not even factoring in Rooney & Klaassen. Sig-DCL can be seen as the more tactical option whereas Vlasic (or Lookman)-Sandro can be seen as the more dynamic. I do think either way the team could benefit from a fit & health Bolasie & Coleman combination operating from the right.
