Well we clearly have identified loads of strikers. We've just only signed one of them. Is the walsh's fault? I thought kenwright was the chief negotiator still

Let's not make out like Gueye was signed from the Eritrean 8th tier, he was playing in the premier league, was a full international and had played Champions League and Europa League football. Okaka is the same, any of us could identify him, it's just nobody has because he's not very good.

Either Walsh's job is to identify and negotiate for all players, or it's simply to find the unknowns. Neither Gueye or Okaka falls into the unknown category.

It's not about whethe they've been heard of or not. It's about cheap gems. They might be well know but well out of form or whatever. Or they could be overseas and under the radar.
Most blues were asking "wtf" when we first went for Gueye. He'd just been relegated as part of a shockingly awful team.
I don't think Walsh's job is about negotiating for all players, as kenwright clearly still has a huge role in that

I don't blame Walsh for not being able to get the really good strikers, fact is most don't want to move to mid table side. I do blame him and the club for letting lukaku go before we had a replacement lined up. It's like we rushed to sell him so that man u could have him in time to play the first game of the prem. Have we though, the fact that even at this late stage we're seemingly still scratching our heads at what to do would point to otherwise

It's not about whethe they've been heard of or not. It's about cheap gems. They might be well know but well out of form or whatever. Or they could be overseas and under the radar.

But the point is that any premier league manager can do that. Sherwood has spotted Gueye in France, as had Koeman/Reed. It's not like he's seen something there that nobody else has, it's just that fans don't tend to notice defensive midfielders for poor sides so it took us by surprise. I would imagine most PL managers were aware of Gueye.

I don't think Walsh was brought in to just identify cheap gems who we could get if Koeman couldn't land his major targets, that's not what a director of football does, it's what a scout does. All the noises from the club have been that Koeman and Walsh work together to identify targets and Walsh works with the board to bring them in. I don't see how the director of football can not be involved in the purchase of a £40m player, it would make his role completely redundant.

That's 5 at least we can say for certaint we've "identified", and we have signed 2 of them.

Giroud I believe was our top target and kept us waiting for a while before making an odd decision to stay at a club in crisi where he is now third choice at best.
