2017/18 Davy Klaassen

I can see him being hammered by some on here and I understand why. He looks lost at the moment in the games I've seen. For the former captan of Ajax he doesn't demand the ball enough for me - he may have been a key cog at his former side and the team looked to him to make things happen. He isn't that here. Yet.

His game is about quick passing, one or two touch & movement around him. Those options haven't been there so far so has looked a passenger. He'll need to improve quickly as patience isn't a virtue in the Prem when points are at stake & you also happen to be keeping a talented young player like Davies out the side.

I think he can be a top player for us if things speed up in and around him & he gets on the ball - if not, he'll quickly find out that the Prem is a cruel place & past reputations count for little if you don't deliver. Hope he grows in confidence & gets to slot a few or picks out key passes. He has a lot more to offer than what we've seen so far is my hope.

I think he's being a bit harshly judged tbh. However I'd also like to see him gain enough confidence to run with the ball at his feet. He's heard so much about the speed and small margins of the premier league that he's one touching everything. A lot of the touches are boss, but he's got to settle down a bit.

More than anyone else we signed this summer, he will need time. His strengths are there for everyone to see, but to affect the game he needs to adapt to the pace and physicality of the league. It's much easier said than done and it only comes from exposure to it.

There are still little moments in every game where I see genuine intelligence which gets missed. The Sevilla game he made a run for Sandro's goal where he was basically free for a tap in if Sandro had squared it rather than goìng round the keeper

Today, he's in the middle of the goal when Calvert-Lewin is about to cross - he runs to the near post, dragging two defenders with him, which leaves Rooney's run into the box unchallenged.

They're little glimpses, but his intelligence is great. Only really Rooney thinking on the same level as him a lot of the time, but then people said the same of Warzycha back in the day - was thinking on a higher level than the rest if the team and look how that worked out.

Of everyone we signed in the summer I think Klaassen was the biggest risk, I like him and I can see quality and real potential to make a big impact here but it's by no means a certainty

It's really as simple as this. Koeman wanted to shoehorn all the new signings onto the field. He needs to just pick a team that flows together.

Completely spot on. It's an issue for a more general thread, but that was the main worry from today. We have good squad depth now, especially in central midfield, but we don't need to let everyone know about it every game. Imagine the team when Sigurdsson signs? Who drops out then? Hopefully when Europe gets going we'll see a little more rotation

Didnt Koeman himself say that Klaassen would have to work hard to adapt to the prem? I think he will be rotated. Alot with Davies in order to blood him to the prem and keep Tom from getting the hump!
