I want Kenny to play too, I think he looks boss potentially.

And I am not one to blindly trust a manager (They are human after all and even the best make mistakes) but I am willing to give him a bit of time purely because Koeman has signed him twice now so he knows what he is getting and trusts him to do a job.

I do think he is destined to be a very polarizing player regardless. Fact is, he aint Coleman. Nobody is.

Doesn't it make you wonder why Cuco was Southampton's third choice right - back.

All managers have their favourite players, look at Moyes signing Fellaini, Mourinho signing Matic, BobbyBrownShoes signing Kone/Cleverley etc. If our man wants him, that's good enough for me. We've seen him play for 90 minutes, barely into his pre-season. Give the chuffer a chance before we condemn him.

I've already said I'll give him a chance mate because I don't actually know anything about him. Also, fitness wise he should be ahead of everyone because he has already played competitive games in the CONCACAF.

Yeah, but new team mates and he'd been there about 10 minutes before selected. Fitness maybe, understanding - not yet, at least not then! He was bad last week, but you've got to give the player a chance, as you have stated.

Yes of course we all are! But we have an academy there for a reason, part of which is to produce players for the first XI and if not quite up to that standard to be able to recoup some income for the club which they have heavily invested in over the years.

I guess this comes down to me having a more "leave it to the professionals" point of view. It's fine to question of course, but I would always think as they see these players day in and day out, that they are able to make a far better balanced judgement than I am on this.

Fully accept this mate. I know it's an incredibly difficult decision for the academy team on who to keep and let go. Much rather them than me. I've always been happy to go with the flow, even with recent surprising decisions such as Ledson and to a lesser extent Holland. Both of them regular Internationals through the age groups. Even all the talk on Connolly I've accepted as part of the bigger picture, much as I'd be sad to see him go without being given an opportunity first.

But now the talk of Kenny, in addition to Connolly, is just a step too far. As far as I'm aware, at this stage it is just a forum poster saying it's something he's heard, so I'm guessing/hoping that it has no legs. But if it were to become true, which is what my original post stipulated, then I think it would be a bad mistake that the club will very quickly regret.

If/when Everton progress to the next level, it's going to be even harder for our young academy players to progress to the first team squad. The club need to be, and indeed are, ruthless in sorting out those not good enough and in recent years have been very active/effective in bringing in young players into the youth set up to plug talent holes. None more so than in the current window. But in Connolly and, in particular Kenny, we have 2 players who have for a long time been touted as potential first teamers. The make up of the squad this year, coupled with us having European fixtures to fit in, gave us the perfect opportunity to try them out this coming season. So the prospect of selling them on without giving them the chance to prove themselves doesn't sit well with me which is why I questioned it. The fact that we are also replacing (In Kenny's case) them in the squad with inferior players just makes it that much worse.

I know what you are saying mate, but we only have to look back to 18 months ago for an example of trusting their judgement, as Luke Garbutt was the next Grosso if you got as carried away with some Evertonians about him.

He has gone out on loan twice and is probably not far off being released as he ha not made the push on it was hoped.

Not sure any of you have any idea in the jump in class from playing against kids every week to the Premier League, not a clue.

Pretty sure Unsworth has though mate, and he has repeatedly said that Kenny is ready.

We've seen Holgate get loads of games at right back, Martina looks to be first choice, seen Pennington turning like the arc royal back there at cb, seen Stek play god damn awful for weeks in a row still getting picked.

Exactly how is Kenny who so far has stepped up every-time he's gone up a level more of a risk?

I'm afraid our opinions differ again mate. This is an example of the club making a wrong judgment call. IIRC we had a fight to keep hold of him as he was at the end of his contract and there were more than a few suitors after him. He was first choice England U21 LB at the time.

He re-signed but on the basis he went on loan as he wanted more game time (which he wasn't going to get with us fighting with Oviedo to be Baines's back up). A team fighting relegation all season was not the best place for a very attack minded full back. Had he gone to a team playing attacking football fighting for promotion (and stayed injury free) things may have been different. Who knows? But as things stand, the club made the wrong decision to offer him a lucrative 5 year contract for somebody his age and then send him to a club who struggled all year. We are now left with a player with no value earning an alleged £30k pw for another 3 years.

For what it's worth mate I actually thought it was a good decision at the time.

One thing for certain, it does bring home just how difficult these decisions are and the possible consequence of getting them wrong.
