The team who finished one place above us has already outspent us. We'll be 7th favourites for the 3 domestics trophies and even lower for the EL.

That shows you the size of the task he is facing.

That's been the case for decades. Moyes got 4th, a semi final, and a final. Martinez got us a record points haul (should've been champions league), two semi finals.

Koeman has outspent both managers after 1 season in charge.

No excuses IMO. If he's wanting the Barca job etc he needs to win trophies and take the pressure.

He shouldn't be expecting an easy ride.

so far we have signed Rooney (31), Keane (24), Klassen (24), Pickford (23), Sandro (21), Onyekuru (20)

so not one single player in the age range he talked about and 5 players in the age range he said we couldn't have too many of them in the team.

I REALLY wouldn't take much stock in what he says to the press about transfers lads

Van der Sar was very unusual, I guess not many teams were in for a new keeper that summer (and he had lost his first team place at Juve). OK name one even in a CL club you think might come for that price, the key is it he has to have a reason to come like Van Der Sar i.e. not getting regular football, a new signing likely to start ahead of him, stalling on a new contract due to wage demands etc. If it's so easy I expect you can provide at least one name if not a list of half a dozen (which I am pretty sure Walsh and Koeman have been looking at)>

We will sign, Martina, Sigurdsson, Giroud i think, and then we will ship out a lot of players - given us the room and raising money to maybe look at a couple of other positions once this batch have been settled late pre season.

Wouldn't shock me to see us shift off Mori and Jagielka and go in with a big bid on VVD late on - he's someone Koeman will know won't take time to adapt to his style and system etc

I saw a report suggesting Roma had lodged a £29m bid. We are a lacking a match winner from open play who can score a goal or thread a pass through the eye of the needle out of nothing

Name one in the same position not playing for a club qualified for the CL (because they won't come) that would be a better cheaper option? It's easy in theory, in truth players of Sigurdssons quality are harder to find that is realised. Punting on young or foreign players who might make the step up/transition to the Premiership is a huge gamble, we should make these gambles but as well as proven players not instead of.

Plenty of non top-tier CL players would come to prem for wages/step-up in league quality (see: Klaassen to us, loads more examples over the years).

The other day I namechecked Bellarabi, Berardi, Keita Balde, Filipe Anderson, Ziyech, Lanzini. For £50m the market opens up even more - Oliver Torres, you can even make enquiries on players like Angel Correa at Atletico and see if heads are turned by more playtime/money.

I also totally don't buy the whole 'premier league proven' thing, just about every best player in the league came from abroad, you just have to be clever with it. I don't think we're being clever with our money, that's all.
