but it does negate your argument about Koeman this season from what i have read as if he had beaten that 72 points this season it still would not have been good enough to finish top 4.
So what that tells me is the number of points you get in a season is essentially pointless in regards to what you get from it. All that matters is league position, which You get by achieving the desired amount of points. We could get top 4 with 65 points next season if everyone has a shocker, does that make Koeman's achievement then less significant for doing so because the amount of points it took to get there is less than Martinez? We have got top 4 on 60 odd points before today so it is entirely possible to do it, however unlikely. Those 72 points were not good enough and 4 other teams outperformed us that season, 73 points this season would have left us with 4 teams outperforming us this season.
So if anything this just proves that repeating the points total in defence of our previous manager or as a marker for our current/future managers to achieve is a pointless argument as the reward for achieveing the points total ends up with the same result, i.e not good enough
