Can we beat seventy two points ?

I dont play for the club, the people getting a fortune to play for it are...apparently.

You cant be downplaying that BS statement from Schneiderlin?

It's a disgrace: "we got snotted by 10 men Arsenal...no bigee".

Amateur.

No it isn't

Yes, this year you needed 76. But how does that negate my point? What makes you think I'm saying we have to aim one point beyond that total?

Are we agreed at least that getting 72+ points has to be the target if we're to get CL football anytime soon?

Certainly upper 50 points / lower 60 points totals aren't going to do it.

but it does negate your argument about Koeman this season from what i have read as if he had beaten that 72 points this season it still would not have been good enough to finish top 4.

So what that tells me is the number of points you get in a season is essentially pointless in regards to what you get from it. All that matters is league position, which You get by achieving the desired amount of points. We could get top 4 with 65 points next season if everyone has a shocker, does that make Koeman's achievement then less significant for doing so because the amount of points it took to get there is less than Martinez? We have got top 4 on 60 odd points before today so it is entirely possible to do it, however unlikely. Those 72 points were not good enough and 4 other teams outperformed us that season, 73 points this season would have left us with 4 teams outperforming us this season.

So if anything this just proves that repeating the points total in defence of our previous manager or as a marker for our current/future managers to achieve is a pointless argument as the reward for achieveing the points total ends up with the same result, i.e not good enough

Yes, league position is all important. But big points totals are the only thing that will get CL footy. There's been seasons when less than 72 points got you in (even less than 70). But we are not getting near even that sum.

Best two attempts to run up a big total by us in recent memory have been 65 by Moyes and 72 by Martinez. The Moyes CL spot finish on 61 points was the freak of all freaks and never to be repeated.

To answer the OP.

Yes, we will next season. Once Ronky ships out the rest of the clowns leftovers and buys sufficent cover. Home form was evident of how good we play, next step is to convert that to away form. Which the Ronk will do

He better do an awful lot better than 61 points given the wages he's on.

Superstar manager in name only. He's had a better squad this season than he had at S'ton where he won more points and finished higher.

No, of course not, it's fine for him to say it.
Maybe he could reimburse the fans who traipsed down to north London yesterday who turned up for a 'not important' game?

He didn't say it wasn't an important game though

imagine we'd have won instead of losing or drawing to burnley, swansea and bournemouth , hull, west ham and boro away,
all massively winnable games, that's 15 points leaving us on 76.....level with the rs

I know it's all if's buts and maybe's but do we really need that much more to add to turn those results around?

We will surpass 61 points next year just tightening up the draws and playing better away from home. Anxious on the transfer front to bolster the back. Creative midfielder would be ace.
