When the going rate for an average player is £10m, to spend the same on one for the future isn't really that much. Schlupp cost Palace £12m, would you rather him?
By your definition Jeff schlupp is better than average, going rate for an average prem player is £18-20m now

Davek makes a very fair point in that we've invested heavily in a young player where his greatest attribute to the club at this moment in time is his potential. The price tag may prove to be a millstone and it prohibits his development, similar to what happned with George Green - I genuinely don't know . Equally he may prove to be the cornerstone of a vibrant, young Blues side and the type of signing we'll take calculated decisions on in the future.

Anyone expecting a stellar upward trajectory where he just gets better and better each time plays will be disappointed. He's learning and adjusting, but equally he'll have to recognise that his development will carry significant scrutiny. I saw his disjointed performance for the U23s and if you saw that game in isolation you would be right in questioning the outlay.

It's been a huge outlay, one we were comfortable to invest in. He has an unpredictability to his game that suggests he's a rare and precocious talent. I for one won't make any judgement on the wisdom of the transfer or the player himself, far from it, I want to to become a superstar. It's the beginning of a journey for him and arguably a statement of the ambition of the club for the future.

Lookmans a brilliant player i think-he was brought in for the future and took his chance a lot earlier than i think koeman expected him to,and is now i think back on the programme he was brought in on, in terms of bringing him in slowly to the 1st team, i think he was unlucky to be dropped at the time he was,he so called didnt have a great game in the one he was subbed in a few months ago,but still had 3 or 4 very good chances,at least he attempts a shot and trys to get a goal in moving forward,

One for the future who's 19. Didn't we not so long ago pay about £2m for them top whack?

I know prices have gone up, but surely not by that inflated price.

I'm not saying he's not worth it. He has promise. But Koeman should be justifying the fee a lot more than he has.

Come on Dave, even you know, the TV money has made the transfer fees mad, Pogba £90m? Didn't Jordan Rhodes go to Middlesborough/Blackburn for £12m or something near to that?
I agree with you prices are crazy but it's what we are paying now.
When we paid £15m for Fellaini I thought we were in the big time!

It's a reasonable price for a first team player. For someone who plays most of the time with the U23s not so. As said, I have nothing against him, he can be a success. My point is that Koeman has to play him more to justify the fee.

Think it was a Walsh singing. But your attempts to turn everything as a negative on the club is embarrassing.

Its a bit hyperbolic that point Dave. ...not like you...

There are no HAVE TO's in these things. They made a decision to pay whatever the hell it was based on their evaluation of his potential I presume.

Once at the club he should only be getting in the team based on his showings in training , u23 or his few mins in the first team. If he is not quite cutting it then large fee or no its pretty normal he would be out of the team.

The point about paying too high a fee for a prospect...or one for the future...well I'd say thats a conversation for another time. If he turns out amazing we will say well done. If he turns out ok and is sold at a profit, then fair enough. If he is crap and disappears off the radar then of course the money paid will be criticised.

But having to play a payer because of the price tag? I dont think thats right, even if it does happen even at the biggest clubs.

Who would you be giving less time on the pitch to accommodate him?
