Has McCarthy not had more game time at Everton than him since Besic joined?
I would imagine so, and Besic will undoubtedly be moved on if he can't recover in time for next season. McCarthy's problems are beginning to seem insoluble, he has had an operation , been nursed back into the team ,only to break down again. I believe the medics are uncertain what the root cause of his long term malaise is.
In any case after the recent events, as good as he can be, I would be happy to see him sold.

Quite right too - he burnt his bridges with EFC in the last international break. Implicitly disrespectful to the club that pays his wages, he is gone in the summer along with his cheese-straw hamstrings.

Almost certainly true

Shame, because I think his energy could have fitted in here somehow under Koeman, even if he wasn't first choice, but there doesn't really seem to be much realistic possibility that we'll keep him beyond the summer now

I feel that his energy is really the only standout part of his game, that used to be noteworthy when he was the only player doing any pressing under Martinez, but with every player having to put a shift in under Koeman there isn't much about him that justifies putting him in the starting XI. He's never really shown a consistent improvement in his attacking game during his time here.

He definitely has a part to play in the team, but I can't really see it as a starter anymore.
