Matthew Pennington

honestly thought he was quite poor me, I mean when he played the whole team in general were awful but not once did I think oh he looks decent him

Pennington got rave reviews at Coventry (where he won young player of the year) and Walsall (where he was regarded as a class above). Clearly good enough for a career in football. Difficult stage of being too good for U23 football and a player of real potential but not yet trusted for first team in top 4 chasing team. Might have to take the Forshaw/Duffy route back to the Prem. Just hope we retain first option.

Plus, not that it really has any impact on football directly, but he is a very articulate and level-headed man. I like the fact the likes of him and Michael Donohue have been able to do so well academically whilst coming through our youth system. The days of good players being told an education isn't important is thankfully gone, as so few of them will make a living out the game.

This isn't the first time Unsowrth has singled him out for praise either. He did well with his loan spells and didn't look out of place in our first team, I'd be surprised if he didn't at least make the bewcnh before the end of the season, especially as he seems to have regained his fitness. One I would say is that Koeman doesn't seem the type to play a young player until he is ready for an extended run in the first team squad. If Pennington does make the squad then I'd expect that would spell the end of the under 23s for him.

Shane's been gone a bit too long mate imo.
Still think its harsh mate. The post is about Penno not Shane imo. He's just an example given. Not off topic at all.

And in answer to his question I would say he's probably on a par with Duffy at the same age. Similar in style in that he's a no nonsense defender but is a bit more comfortable on the ball. Leads the back line well.

I like him but not sure if he is the quality we need at Everton but wouldnt be at all surprised if he haf a career in the premier.

Seems to have his fitness back after long injury and hope he gets chance with first XI before end of season.
