Noticeable Improvements

Obviously not best to do that

Moyes defence, basically Moyes team with a couple of loan signings and McCarthy thrown in.

Then el fraudo stepped up to the plate and we turned into a laughing stock.

You're better than this.

That's like saying let's take out the impact of Lukaku in relation to Koeman's numbers as Martinez was the one who coached him into being a consistent PL starter.

Mate, we had a good season and improved 1 place in that season. it was Moyes team and well you know it.

The results of fraudo's team are there for all to see in the last 2 seasons, just like the worst home record in how long?

McGeady, Kone, Alcaraz, Cleverley, Atsu, Niasse etc etc

If you persist in this line of stupidity I will have to ignore you.

To be fair to davek, you are all doing the same thing as him from the opposite end of the spectrum. No credit given to Martinez, no criticism of Koeman. No grey area, no logic applied, no justification that some things improved while we suffered in other areas. All the faults were down to previous manager, who's only achievements were due to manager before him.

The same applies to most people, some objectivity needs to be applied.

We are improving now, and that is a good thing. Maybe if all of the talk of improvement wasn't a counterpoint to the previous regime there wouldn't be as defensive a response.

Its football, for every good patch there's another team going through an equally [Poor language removed] patch which distorts things massively.

Lets just hope we continue to improve over the remainder of the season.

P. S. All hail the negative net spend... If we can boss and make a profit, surely that's a good thing, no?

I think this window has 100% strengthened us and set us up to bring in the players we need in the summer. We need to keep Lukaku and add another quality striker. Midfield maybe 1 more attacking option and possibly a new Keeper and a new LB/CB?

Most of those were bought as backup. What about Lukaku, Robles, McCarthy, Holgate, Galloway, Deulofeu etc etc?

Anything good he did is tainted by the state he left us in.

2 of those are out on loan and can't get a game by the way. You can have Lukaku, Robles has only just come good, McCarthy is hit and miss and probably off in summer, Holgate was a good signing.

You missed Barry out who has been a successful signing overall.

I'll criticise Martinez as much as anyone but @mkrudden does not have tunnel vision on this. He's right to point out that Martinez should be credited for the first season Lukaku, Barkley, McCarthy, Barry, Deulofeu Stones were all his signings/developed that played first team. He augmented the strong base left behind very well.

What he then failed to do was replace the creativity and balance of that side, Pienaar and Osman had been critical in linking possession play to the forwards, they got injured and were not replaced, Naismith Etoo Cleverley Kone were all poor choices for the wide positions. Ally that with declining form of older defenders and goal keeper and you can see why we struggled last two seasons in my view.

4th best defence in the league. I think that's the most obvious improvement. Oh and the league standing is also better.

I know Koeman from his time in Portugal. Even though he was brought up in Holland and he played for Barcelona, under Cruyff, he's not a typical attacking manager.

He's not a brilliant manager but he is a good one. He'll seek for balance in his team. It will take some time until you'll see us beeing a team that plays with a high defensive line and that closes up in the whole pitch. Now, this was the main flaw with Martinez. He didn't prepare his team to play his way. He didn't go from stage to stage. He wanted to do it from the beginning. Things took the wrong turn and he never gave up on his views even if that would keep us away from an unthinkable top 10 finish in the league.

Moyes wasn't brilliant but we were consistent. Koeman is the logical step after Moyes. Unless we have a load of money to splash on a number of high quality players.

Friends, friends. This is a thread which promotes friendship and acceptance of the facts. Please do not let the error of our past cause anguish among us.

Let the Ronkster lead us to glory, he holds the key
