I think you are right. Sure its something to do with Barca still having first refusal to buy. Bit of a complication
Would only come into play if they did in fact want him surely.
If AC made made an offer to buy and we wanted to sell, the ball would be in Barcelona's court.

If Barca's buy-back clause is 3 years then maybe we can't sell him to anyone else til the end of next season.

Isn't the "no buy option" something to do with the clause Barca have rather than our unwillingness to sell. Sure I read it somewhere, or I could be chatting utter wham; a first for everything I suppose

Yeah, Barca have a buy-back clause which expires after this summer. I *think* they can buy him back for something like 12m euros this year.

Yep, I was right...

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/nov/19/everton-gerard-deulofeu-barcelona-buyback-clause

"...There are certain things in the deal. They can’t take him back in the winter so they can’t take him back in January. It can only be at the end of the season. It is €9m for the first year and €12m in the second year.

“If they take him back they can’t sell him for a season, so he has to stay in the first-team squad for a season. At the end of that if they decide to sell him we have got first rights of getting him back or we have got a big percentage of that deal."

Presumably this will have been a consideration when we negotiated the loan deal with Milan. Unless he has a great spell at Milan, I doubt whether Barca will be particularly bothered about activating the clause though, personally.

He got 8 assists and 4 goals last season. That's not improvement?

We also spent £30mill on a winger with similar stats
No it's not an improvement because he has not becomd a more rounded player has he.

We spent 22m on bolasie and in this system he had a much bigger and better affect in the team.

You can fawn over deulofeu as much as you like but he's never going go be a top player unless he can consistently show his ability and also learn he has to put effort in.

When he's 25+ and hasn't improved, then I'll write him off.

What's hard to understand?

He has always been able go go through purple patches of form and do the same thing, beat a man and then cross.

But he's not improved in any other aspect of his game.

He hasnt added goals to it, his fitness is still shocking, he has no new strings to his bow in 3 years under 3 different managers.

I struggle with Geri. I want him succeed, more so than most really. Going forward, his place in the team is undeniable. But if he creates a goal and then gives that goal back b/c of lack of fitness/effort on the other side of the ball, well, he's not benefiting the team on a net basis. And for those comparing Geri and what we paid for Bolasie, that's the key difference - Bolasie does so much more than just whip in crosses, although his attacking rewards are more or less the same to maybe even down.

I like the lad. I hope he rejuvenates his career at Milan. I wish him well. But he was not trusted to play consistently for his last three managers - all of whom gave him a real run in the team. There's gotta be something to that

I'm sad that it hasn't worked out with Deulofeu. There's no doubt in my mind that he was our best attacking winger. He created a lot of chances in his playing time. I loved having him as a sub in the last 20 minutes.

He's obviously not doing what Koeman wanted, otherwise he would have been playing a lot more. That being said, we don't currently have any other player that can do what Gerry did. Mirallas is better as a 2nd striker. Lennon has always been rather limited going forward. Lookman and DCL are still raw. Kone isn't good enough. I honestly haven't been too impressed with Valencia. He doesn't seem to link play very well.
