Moutinho - all talk in here please.

I'd rather have Osman. And so would all you if his name was Osmonio and had European flair ;

Brilliant

Unfair to judge base on one or two matches. On the whole, Moutinho seems to be the younger, fitter, better version of Osman. The
most important part is Moutinho can play anywhere across midfield and be effective, Osman can't.
I wonder what's their goal assist ratio comparison.

'Seems' being the key word.

Seemingly better than Osman doesn't warrant a record breaking transfer of £18m/£22m, does it?

Also disagree with Moutinho being effective 'anywhere across midfield'. On the wings, definitely not - defensive mid? Very much doubt it in the Prem.

Is this whats it become? Young Jack is heartbroken, the bashing you have given him the last few months. And now your starting on players before we sign them to greatness, shocking.

The Mout is the type of player that can play anywhere and shine. Every inch of his "compact" frame is built for footballing pleasure.

Rodwell is the main reason I oppose Moutinho. If he comes, you can be sure Rodwell will facilitate the deal.

And I'm not talking about sexual favours for the Portuguese one.

He makes you tingle doesn't he goat?

You're entitled to your opinion, and you deserve my utmost respect.

But you are clearly judging a player you don't know, based on a couple of matches.

Funny that Everton first spotted Moutinho playing the defensive midfield role.

After paying 15M€ for Fellaini, I find amusing that you question a 18M price tag on a better player.

I think sotnas put the range around 15m. Felli didn't warrant our transfer record back then and he struggled as DM but look at him now.
True that Mout is not a winger by trade, but I don't think he'll play much worse than Osman on the wings.

WHEN he has a good world cup, you can guarantee his value will be nearer 30mil. He's a top player, and IF we want him, we best get it done before the world cup.

Toxteth, the common opinion on Moutinho is that he is a box to box.

Personally I think he's a midfield that can play with equal effectiveness in the middle of the park with any sort of mission.

Tell him to be a box to box and he will. Tell him to be the anchorman and he will. Tell him to play the number 10 position and he will.

Last match you could watch part of what he can do. When he was told to roam he caused problems and made Osman to man mark him. When Sporting needed to defend and explore the counter you saw him with a knife in his teeth chasing opponents and the ball.

I don't think he would compete with Arteta for a place, I think he would add value to Arteta's style of play.

Arteta wants to go up... Moutinho will provide cover for him. Arteta wants to sit...Moutinho will do the running up and down the pitch. You want someone to help your full back? Moutinho will do it.

I never said Arteta couldn't defend (asking if he will provide cover doesn't mean necessarly he can't defend) I said that Moutinho will do it better because he is a smart player with very good perception of the game, with a great engine and energy.

The picture of Arteta that I have tells me he's a clever player who likes to have the ball, with very good offense ability but not all that hardworking. He prefers to control his position than close down on the opponent. Will he read the game to go for the rescue of his fullback? Not saying he won't, but the hand full of matches where I watched him never showed this in his game. Sometimes he lets himself in the shadow of the game (even in his best days). I remember him operating on the wing and I remember we discussed Arteta's best position. I told at the time that I'd put him in the middle in a 3 man midfield or on the left wing like Pienaar is used.

Clearly you know Arteta a lot better than I do, but I do know Moutinho a lot better than you do so we may be talking rubbish comparing them both.

As I said Moutinho could well be a similar player to Scholes. Even the goals in Scholes game could be replicated in Moutinho's, given the time and the hard work in training.

Fair points Sotnas, some I agree with and some I don't. But that's football, it's all about opinions.

As I said, if Moyes' changed the formation we played I'd love to have him here, a central pairing of Fellaini, Arteta and Moutinho would be one of the best around.
