Welcome to the site! Plenty of us Americans flocked to this site right when LD was announced to come to Everton, so your theory is correct.oh, and came across this today... Donovan rated #50th best player in the World Cup this summer.

It has also already been discussed here in this ridiculous 99 page thread
The article you're referring to was posted just in the last page or two I believe. funny that you find a link from a Sounders blog, of all sources. Here's a link - Sounders FC Blog | ESPN ranks Landon Donovan the World Cup's 50th-best player | Seattle Times Newspaper
Nice to see him in such company, though I set more store by players ratings AFTER the World Cup's actually happened.

i posted this in the world football thread too, but its nice to have an everton player on this list, even if he won't be at the time of the cup.

If I ever get an Everton shirt with a name on the back, I'd probably go with Yobo or Arteta on the back.
Not to be taken too seriously, but Alexi Lalas did say during the USMNT friendly against the Netherlands yesterday that Donovan's stellar performance for Everton just opened the eyes of many European clubs. He said while he's confident Landon will return to the MLS, he says after the WC the sky's the limit for Landon.
Lalas just said he thinks Landon will have plenty of suitors. I'm just hoping that Everton is one of those suitors, and Donovan picks Everton due to his comfort zone here.![]()
