James McCarthy

Be honest though lads, do you really hate McCarthy that much or are you just getting stuck in because you all still, for some weird reason, hate Martinez and thus you want to go to war hardcore on one of his primary signings?

If you can honestly look in the mirror and say "no", then fair enough and more power to you, but it just seems unreasonable the level of hate that Jimmy Mac is getting in some quarters, especially when, as Dave succinctly pointed out, there was an 18 month period before the injuries where he was very good for us

McCarthy is a Martinez player so it's sort of hand in hand.

However, it's not just him I currently despise. It's the vast majority of the Martinez legacy players. They all need shipping out.

But this is the James McCarthy thread so surely it's normal the focus is on him?

I don't get why you hate the Martinez legacy players so much though

Jimmy Mac, Deulofeu, Lukaku, Barry and Lennon have all had periods where they played well, with Robles and Clev having the odd good showing now and then as well

Yes, Niasse and Kone have failed to impress, and Alcaraz was awful beyond all comprehension, but I'm not of the mindset that "Martinez Player = Bad"

We saw a lot of "Moyes Player = Bad" during Martinez's time as well

I'd just like us to get away from that tbh. Players shouldn't be guilty by association imo

I just want a new team. From top to bottom if i'm totally honest.

But you know we can't do that mate

You can't ship out 7-9 starters in one go, you have to try and make the most of what's there, and Jimmy Mac still has more to offer

I honestly think we need to back him now and wait till he's fully fit before we judge him

If he's crap then, fine, cull

If he never gets fit again, fine, cull

But neither of those scenario's have happened yet

Basically, stop being grumpy gravy granules is what I'm saying, and give The Mac Daddy a chance

I would if I could trust me!

I do understand your point but he'd be high up my list to get rid of early on. He's for some reason, seemingly still worth a bit of cash, so sell now while he still is.

I've given him about 7 chances mate. I'm bored of him now. Soz pal. We need more Gana's and less Jimmy Macs. It may be than McCarthy gets a hell of chance during the AFCON, and to be totally honest with you it terrifies me.

Steady on, we always say things we don't mean when we're angry. Go and have a snickers mate.

Haha - 1st September 2013;

Only seen the lad two or three times. Reminded me of Joe Allen. Does the simple things. Like Tobias Linderoth.

April 2016;

Definitely.

We play (or attempt to play...) a possession game.

Being kind, he is 'limited' in possession. Off the ball, he doesn't do enough. Nowhere near enough.

Last season and this he has been Tobias Linderoth v2.

Being kind - anonymous.

Being from Kirkby - a sulking, anonymous, bottler.

We played with 10 men again today with him.

I've hit my limit with him. Well and truly had enough.

To be fair, wasn't convinced when we signed him - he made me look daft in that first season. Ever since, he's been shocking.

I think it'll be the time he proves he belongs

Rooting for him

Interestingly though;

As time as gone on, evidently - not the case.
But he did win you over after initial scepticism, did he not?

Well, you shouldn't manipulate things to fit your agenda.

First season he looked a cracking player but for the majority of time here, he's been underwhelming. The epitome of the manager who brought him in.

As of now, after watching him for a few seasons I'm saying he's not good enough to play regularly for any team wanting to compete in the top half of the league. He's limited on the ball, and if that's the case - you need to be damn good off it. He's not.
