Mate, have to disagree. Williams is way too slow, a lump, bolasie way overpriced and i know some wont like it, but Gana has a massive flaw, he has no composure when any where near the goal (altho the best of the 4)..... ps am on coach home so am pd off with it all

Only my opinion mate. Just my feeling after today.

I can't hold Bolasie's price against him. Not his fault. But for me if he hadn't been there today we'd have had even less threat. Imagine that.

Oh and I'm not saying these are amazing. Imagine what I think of all the rest. Absolute woeful footballers we have.

If that is indeed the case then it smacks of bad management to me.

If those players "know" they are going to be punted then it is little wonder they are de-motivated.

Was a time a new manager would have told every player he had a clean slate and needed to prove to him he was worth keeping.

But if Koeman has made it clear to certain players they have no future here then that goes some way to explaining the passionless performances we have been seeing.

The trick is keeping them interested and motivated even if they don't figure in your Long or even medium term plans.

Then punt them.
Look at Victor Moses at Chelsea.A new manager has come in and given him a new lease of life.

You are partly right Khal, but don't forget what Barry said about this squad.

'The standards of the players were, for me, slightly slipping last season, on and off the pitch,' said Barry. 'If standards are slipping off the pitch it can impact on your form on the pitch and the whole team was losing that level that is expected to compete at the top end of the Premier League.

'It was things like time-keeping, dress codes, training; everything, really. The manager (Koeman) doesn't want to come across as some sort of headmaster but he has been quite keen to let anybody know if they go underneath the standards expected. That is good for everyone'.

The only one that left was Stones. We need a root and branch clear out before it is too late. For me Baines, Jags, Barkley and Lukaku need a time on the sidelines.

Might be martinez players but this is anything but martinez system. Under his system we attacked, kept possession and played football. It bears absolutely no resemblance to a Martinez system.

But carry on blaming a past managers Fallings as an excuse for a guy who is in his 6th month and has shown absolutely no sign of progression. Arguably regression.

At times we did but more often than not we'd be as insipid as we were today.

Yeah, it's not great at the moment but we're 7th so that's at least something.

What really mystifies me, and has for a couple of seasons, is that we have persisted with woeful backup options, Eto'o aside, for Lukaku yet we have a lad in the U23, who has bade his time, was willing to got out on loan to a lower league side and done well, yet still hasn't had much of a sniff in the first team. His name is David Henen, surely can't do much worse than a Kone or Valencia especially in games like today we we need a young and fresh pair of legs up top?

He joined Fleetwood Town on a season long loan and only played 12 games, scoring 1 goal.

How on earth is that 'doing well'?

How do we know he isnt? We know he wants the 100% energy, pressing etc as he has stated before AND after nearly every match the last couple of weeks - its obvious the players either wont or cant (the latter i find hard to believe of professional players) do it.

What can he do besides keep on working on it? There are too many not doing what he wants to drop them, or we would have 9 U23's out there which isnt practical.

I also think he's restricted in the formation too. We dont have the legs in CM, or the work rate in the attacking positions to play 442 - we would be completely over-run in midfield. He tried 3 at the back and we got hammered.
Here's a thought mate. Last season we played a better Southamptin team than that one today and utterly pulverised them with some resilient defending and devastating counter attacking. Those players are all still there barring a player sold (Stones) and one he loaned out (Galloway).

If he can't get this lot to play the way he wants and is biding his time until he can purchase players who can carry out his game plan, then he has to be PRAGMATIC. Which is funny really, because when Koeman was first touted as Martinez's replacement pragmatism was seen as his trademark.

I suggest he needs to use the players he has right now to play the way they can play best and wait until another day to get his vision (whatever that may be) in place.

Because he never really played at Southampton until he ran into trouble when he replaced pelle with long. We have lukaku who doesn't press and never has, the same for Barkley. On the flip side you look at someone like klopp and poch who came in and implemented it without an issue. The team is to deep to be a high pressing team, they allow the ball to be moved out and around with ease. They're about 20 yArds to deep

If you want to do a high press you don't do so with a 36yo Holding Midfielder, a 32 and 34yo slow centre back pairing and a 34yo Keeper who isn't the fastest and whose default position is quite deep. Fact that two of those 4 where Koeman signings shows he isn't trying to implement a high press

Oh and fair play coming all this way down mate and having to put up with all that. Total admiration for everyone who did the same.

  • Sorry if this has already been mentioned - I'm not at all impressed by this quote from Koeman about the Southampton striker who made his debut today, having progressed through their academy: "I wasn't aware of Josh Sims when I was here and he is not my problem - I work for Everton, not Southampton." Why wasn't he aware of him? He was their manager up until the summer.
