southampton played a kid today. why cant we. too much respect for the likes of jaguelka and co when they dont show the same in return. jagielka should become a lumber jack. felling seems to be his game

I'm convinced certain players know they are about to be punted in January/next season and simply don't give a toss. No coincidence that 3 of Koemans 4 regular starting signings look the most arsed on the pitch (Gueye, Bolasie and Williams). Coleman tries and Lukaku is quality but outside of that the rest of the side is grim and Barkley isn't doing it this or last season.
Yep I'll buy that.

As s result though we have a squad of duds going through the motions.

Koeman needs to be doing better, I'd like to see a change in tactics and formation, and he definitely needs to freshen the starting 11 up with a couple of the u23's.

However, I'm not hanging this all on Koeman, no way. This is pretty much two and a half seasons of this kind of no aggression, no backbone, no heart performances.

There's something rotten at the core of the squad. Heads drop the minute things go against us, players either can't or won't press the opposition, the movement from Lukaku + 2 wingers is constantly non-existent. Players seem to bothered about moaning at each other than actually trying to do something themselves. Koeman, Walsh and Moshiri have massive work to do to fix a broken squad, and it's going for take either a few transfer windows, or a couple really bold windows where we bin a lot of them off.

There's a malaise around the club where mediocrity is acceptable, too many people; players, staff and suits just aren't winners.

We're supposed to be Nothing But the Best is good enough, too often best of the rest has been acceptable.

Exaxtly this, spot on

They were atleast trying this pre Norwich game so why suddenly have they stopped? I'm convinced certain players know they are about to be punted in January/next season and simply don't give a toss. Because he never really played at Southampton until he ran into trouble when he replaced pelle with long. We have lukaku who doesn't press and never has, the same for Barkley. On the flip side you look at someone like klopp and poch who came in and implemented it without an issue. The team is to deep to be a high pressing team, they allow the ball to be moved out and around with ease. They're about 20 yArds to deep

The only stick I'll give Koeman atm is that Jagielka should have been peddled for Mori weeks ago.

And would love to see him play the younger lads either from the start or the bench. Won't need to tell them twice to close a ball down.

Still believe that he should be given time to build his own team and ship out the rot.

Forget the points total it's the position in table that counts. The garden isn't rosy but you have to give the manager a chance or put this another way Klopp faced the same criticism last season.
Yes position counts, at the end of the season not at the end November. We have not picked up a great deal of points recently against distinctly average opposition (hello Burnley and Swansea) and we are about to embark on a run of games where we play higher quality opposition. I am not suggesting getting rid of Koeman but he should (and will be) under pressure to justify his £6M salary (and, frankly, his big talk) in the next run of games. We can't keep banging on about how it's all Bobby Brown Shoes fault if our current set up fares less well than he did with a, supposedly, inferior squad.

I've no idea whether this fella is any good. It's martinez players playing a Martinez system. I've no idea what to make of him. I know I despise the playing squad tho.

Might be martinez players but this is anything but martinez system. Under his system we attacked, kept possession and played football. It bears absolutely no resemblance to a Martinez system.

But carry on blaming a past managers Fallings as an excuse for a guy who is in his 6th month and has shown absolutely no sign of progression. Arguably regression.

If that is indeed the case then it smacks of bad management to me.

If those players "know" they are going to be punted then it is little wonder they are de-motivated.

Was a time a new manager would have told every player he had a clean slate and needed to prove to him he was worth keeping.

But if Koeman has made it clear to certain players they have no future here then that goes some way to explaining the passionless performances we have been seeing.

The trick is keeping them interested and motivated even if they don't figure in your Long or even medium term plans.

Then punt them.

Absolutely right. Where are the winners? You look at that squad that played today and how many of them have a league, or a trophy to their name? Barry? Lukaku has an FA Cup winner and a league with Anderlecht I think. The rest are just never have been, never will be type players that just stink the place out at Everton. In the past people talked about us getting 'United cast-offs' or players bombed out of other massive clubs - like Pienaar - but they had won something, they knew what it took to win. You look at Enner Valencia casually jogging on for us at 80 minutes and you're just struck by how much of horrendous mess the current Everton setup is. What it didn't need, it absolutely didn't need, was another silk-pyjama mercenary that had to be flung a fair few bags of silver his way for him to reluctantly take the job.

Could you even imagine if the Sissoko deal had gone through.

Just got home. Excellent after match curry!

Anyway. That was horrendous.

But I'm still with the manager. His 4 signings were, for me, the only decent players today.

Stek was fine from the second minute onwards and that one save looked outstanding. Was it as good as it looked from far away?

Gana looks a class above all of our squad. Had to work doubly hard today as Barry was woeful.

If anything good was going to happen today it was going to come from Bolasie. He is what he is, but not only does he not know what he's going to to next, neither do defenders. Was good today.

Williams to a lesser extent. Jags is gone for me. So Williams isn't looking so good but it's because of Jags.

The problem is the Martinez legacy players. The sooner we get rid of nearly all of them the better. Only then can I fully judge Koeman.
Mate, have to disagree. Williams is way too slow, a lump, bolasie way overpriced and i know some wont like it, but Gana has a massive flaw, he has no composure when any where near the goal (altho the best of the 4)..... ps am on coach home so am pd off with it all

What really mystifies me, and has for a couple of seasons, is that we have persisted with woeful backup options, Eto'o aside, for Lukaku yet we have a lad in the U23, who has bade his time, was willing to got out on loan to a lower league side and done well, yet still hasn't had much of a sniff in the first team. His name is David Henen, surely can't do much worse than a Kone or Valencia especially in games like today we we need a young and fresh pair of legs up top?

Funny that he's been quite brutally open about Niasse, so if he has made it clear others will be going in January/next summer, he's being rather more tight-lipped about them.
