Ronald Koeman discussion

If Koeman is ruthless he should send some of this players to a reserve team and promote youngsters just to put a shame on senior players. To move forward we need a brilliant man manager and someone who's brave, hard and passionate (hate to say, but look at Klopp's dedication) - don't think Koeman fall into these categories.

Shame there are no more managers like Brian Clough who would put Martin O'Neil in the second team when he performed badly and explain it to him that he's playing there because he's too good to play in the third team.

Exactly, if they don't fit into what he wants klopp boots them and he's got people like coutinho Lallana and firminho running none stop.

Grow a pair of balls and bin them

You lot looked very similar to us in our November-December slump last year, lump it up to a big man upfront and if it doesn't work, repeat it until it might work. Luckily for us today, VVD is probably the best CB in the league in the air. He's also very reluctant to drop out of form players out of loyalty/lack of options.

One you can expect in the coming weeks in a move to a 5 at the back, until you grind out the most turgid defensive footballing, and start scraping out draws. This is what he did for us to get us out of our slump last year, and it worked, but it's not pretty.

Koeman's also realising it's harder to organise a defence when you haven't got Fonte and VVD/Alderwiereld as your CB partnership, and Wanyama/Schnierderlin as your defensive midfielders. I like the look of Idrissa Gueye though.

All the best for the rest of the season (apart from our trip to Goodision.)
First of all great performance today by you guys VVD is class!!
Koeman keeps talking about the high pressing in games did you see any of that when he was there

That would be fine if it was 1 or 2 players, even 3 at a push but there are too many that need replacing - we would end up playing nearly the full U23 team and thats never going to work.

We will have to put up with these pathetic showings until January at least

Here it comes, the pat on the head.

Pat pat pat, well done guys, 'Saints fan in peace'

Tie your nuts to your sanctimony-filled balloon and float off back to that cesspit near Portsmouth

Obviously the manager needs more time & the Club need to get the players he wants in - however, i expected him to be getting so much more out of this group of players, its utter dross.

Has Koeman lost the dressing room do you think?
The players look like they can't be arsed, and even those who tried; Gueye and Bolasie, look shot of confidence.
It is going to be a longggg December! Absolutely dreading the Derby

It's a simple enough solution for Koeman. If they aren't arsed enough to do their bit for the side and to fight for the fans then they get binned. Reputations should go out the window. None of this squad deserve any loyalty. They take us for granted so they are irrelevant. They ain't bigger than the club. Get rid of them and move on.

Just got home. Excellent after match curry!

Anyway. That was horrendous.

But I'm still with the manager. His 4 signings were, for me, the only decent players today.

Stek was fine from the second minute onwards and that one save looked outstanding. Was it as good as it looked from far away?

Gana looks a class above all of our squad. Had to work doubly hard today as Barry was woeful.

If anything good was going to happen today it was going to come from Bolasie. He is what he is, but not only does he not know what he's going to to next, neither do defenders. Was good today.

Williams to a lesser extent. Jags is gone for me. So Williams isn't looking so good but it's because of Jags.

The problem is the Martinez legacy players. The sooner we get rid of nearly all of them the better. Only then can I fully judge Koeman.

To be fair to Saints fans, they usually know their place.

It's not like they cried to everyone who'd listen about how their manager left for a bigger club in the summer.

Oh hang on.

In Koeman's first season, a lot of the pressing was the remains of Poch's high press, but over his tenure the amount of pressing decreased. He always talked about pressing high up the pitch, but from my experience it was more of just being organised behind the ball, and closing down angles and options, as opposed to the 'full press' he talks about.

During our brilliant run last year, we basically ditched Pelle, and brought in Long, who's energy allowed to us engage in more of a full press, of which we reaped the reward. I don't know if you have the pacey tireless forward needed to recreate the same results. Although with Lukaku (who I really rate) it should be a matter of when, not if, you find the system that works.
