Ronald Koeman discussion

the job hasn't really changed once it all kicks in, just increases the range of my work that i will be doing. but being specialised in my role, means that the majoirty of the workload i will cover won't change at all until the rest of the staff can be trained in what i do. So in theory more money for the same job, long term sure, i would need to improve the range of work i done, but then by that point i hopefully won't be there anymore lol

Leicester, in winning the PL, busted monolithic paradigm : that is, they found avenue of different method toward cracking a nut than simply buying the most expensive nut-cracker.

The poetically inclined cynic/sceptic among us would have Leicester's result a mere aberration (i.e. "t'was a soft shelled nut that season")

Me?: I remain imbued of unbounded optimism that the mighty ship of Everton might nearby discover fair trade wind toward some footballing Shangri-La.

PS : I've got a bad feeling about this weekend.

Oh dear, it sounds like someone is still hurting -

Koeman took a backwards step - Le Tissier
Ahead of Ronald Koeman’s return to Southampton, the views of Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier.

When asked if Koeman was right to swap St Mary’s for Goodison, he said:

I said at the time that I was surprised that he almost made a backwards step. I think it’s going to be tougher for him at Everton than he thought. No disrespect to Everton but I thought he could have got a bigger move given the great work he did at Southampton.

Having said that, I think it would be too early for him to regret moving. There’s still plenty of time for the investment, assuming it is there. You can understand why he went, with there being more money for him to attract players.

I‘d expect them to invest in January and the summer as I think he wanted to assess his squad first. If he doesn’t spend big then I think that might be a sign that he has been sold down the river a bit.

It’s been a decent start but he’s come across plenty of bumps in the road.

Actually mate from next month i technically will be getting paid more for largely the same job. I won't be getting better at my job as a result, just being paid more money slightly.

I get the higher wages can lead to better players as a result. Not disputing that fact whatsoever. I am talking about in the general sense, if the wage bill was higher would we be higher by default? Because according to the statistics, we suddenly would be finishing higher, and even contract extensions to barkley and rom type players are fully understandable, combined with the wage bill being increased overall.

But signing bolasie and giving him such high wages for arguments sake, has he improved us? Because by law of statistics he has done, because he is the 'better' player for more wages.

Indeed. But in another way, you're talking in a very specific and insane context of a company increasing employee wages for no reason whatsoever.

The mind numbingly obvious context - the reality that companies tend to pay higher salaries to more highly skilled employees - is the only one that really applies here. Congratulations on bucking that trend, though.

In the example i gave, it was for long standing employees and most prized assets so not completely out of the ordinary to offer said players a pay rise as a mark of appreciation.

We're doing a bit better than the last two seasons.

Koeman has played 4/3/3 at Southampton but shown no inclination to do so here.

With what wev'e got available I'd go 3/5/2

He played 4-3-3 in the first few pre-season games but yeh, until the other day in the second half I can't recall us using it much.

Stoke at home we did actually.

The only positive I take from that is bar that horror show from Chelsea the defence has looked a lot more cohesive on the whole, but is still liable to the odd lapse (though I do think it is more as in individual mistakes now - i.e. Jags)

Oh, and in the past two seasons we'd actually been playing very well up until now, so given we haven't really been playing well, that is also a plus.

Yes, but that wouldn't be outwith the regular operations of all clubs in the country, i.e. it wouldn't just be Everton doing this, and our relative position as a wage payer wouldn't change dramatically as a result.

no but it would increase the bill, which in turn would theoretically increase the league placing if statistics are correct.

This is all i'm saying, yes better players get paid more and that is why they finish higher, but the way the argument was presented in the first instance (by zat) was just going by the basic wage bill = success argument. Which i was just suggesting how that isn't true as a ruling.
