then it is condradictory. Wages relate to league place, but if our wages were higher we wouldn't finish higher?

See where i am coming from? My argument is that wages don't relate to league placings and is a coincidence to a fair degree.

I weirdly know what you mean but you're wording it oddly.

You're saying if we paid our players £30k more, but we wouldn't be doing that because they're not worth it. We'd be paying new better players £30k more so our league placing would in theory improve.

In a way yes. The short argument of wages show where a team finishes roughly, might be relevant in the sense it seems to fall into place, not arguing the statistics whatsoever.

But in theory if we increased our wage bill it wouldn't then translate into league placings, which then makes the idea sound silly. Our players wouldn't suddenly get better or win more games than what they do now, so if we then had a good season, it would be relative to how much they were paid.

I'm not sure you're getting this mate.

If we increase our wage bill, it wouldn't be on our current players. It would be on better players.

In that sense yes we would.

but the raw point of wage bill = league placings doesn't carry validity if it was on the squad we have now. In fact if lukaku / ross / coleman / baines / McCarthy / Jags alone had been given extended contracts in the summer with wages increases from 20 to 60 grand extra (rom being the highest) it would have taken us higher up the wage table so to speak. All players that you would understand the club to extend contracts of, and we would still have lost to burnley and bournemouth and be 7th.

I am talking theoretical here, just in relation to the ruling of it being true or otherwise.

if you got better wages would you be better at your job? HOWEVER if your job was advertised at a higher wage would your employer be able to get someone better

its a bit like why a doctor is paid more than a cleaner

Actually mate from next month i technically will be getting paid more for largely the same job. I won't be getting better at my job as a result, just being paid more money slightly.

I get the higher wages can lead to better players as a result. Not disputing that fact whatsoever. I am talking about in the general sense, if the wage bill was higher would we be higher by default? Because according to the statistics, we suddenly would be finishing higher, and even contract extensions to barkley and rom type players are fully understandable, combined with the wage bill being increased overall.

But signing bolasie and giving him such high wages for arguments sake, has he improved us? Because by law of statistics he has done, because he is the 'better' player for more wages.

there will always be 'outliers' as such, but in general, better wages = better players= higher league position

the job hasn't really changed once it all kicks in, just increases the range of my work that i will be doing. but being specialised in my role, means that the majoirty of the workload i will cover won't change at all until the rest of the staff can be trained in what i do. So in theory more money for the same job, long term sure, i would need to improve the range of work i done, but then by that point i hopefully won't be there anymore lol
