Clapping Naismith

Anybody at the Everton V Chelsea game 1978. Duncan Mckenzie scored for the Chelsea and the whole Street End cheered in unison.
No harm in clapping in my opinion. Naismith tried his best for Everton, did a bit for ETIC, so why not appreciate him.

He wouldn't have celebrated anyway, he's a good egg, but even more so when as soon as he scores he hears us clapping him.

I genuinely think, as already mentioned by a poster on here, most fans were clapping as they thought it'd prove to be scant consolation for Norwich in the game and we'd go on to smash them. If it had been 0-0 and the goal had gone in after 85 minutes, I am pretty sure he wouldn't have been applauded.

Were people clapping Naismith's goal or his respect after? Two very different things to applaud.

As soon as he scored we clapped him like he'd scored for us, he'd never have celebrated scoring against us if we had clapped him or not.

You only think that

If your lad was good enough to step out on to Goodison to play against us for say, Ipswich Town, you would bring down the rafters if he scored.
