I think Ross has loads of natural ability but his decision making is poor.

Some people say he overthinks stuff, personally I don't think he thinks enough, whatever it is that goes on in his head he takes too long doing it and half the time ends up losing the ball.

You often watch him pass, or run the ball in to trouble, which is infuriating when he has other options on but isn't smart enough to use them. It's like he's got all this ability but doesn't know how to use it.

One quality most top players all have is great awareness, decision making and speed of thought. Ross doesn't seem to have them yet and that's why he's so inconsistent imo.

I hope he improves but I'm starting to get a bit concerned because he doesn't seem to have progessed on those parts of his game over the last couple of seasons.

At least he's got a great manager to work under now so hopefully he will improve.

oh right, yeh fair enough, agree.

it's something that will come with time I feel. Gerrard was never a 'good' tackler until about 27/28 IMO.

If you really think about it, has he improved since he broke into the team at 19? Come on Super Blooz, let's have this right. If he was foreign you'd all want him sold for £7m tbqhwy

He definitely has, just not consistently.

He's still a very young player and people forget this, but that said it would be foolish to excuse his last couple of displays. He's been awful.

It seems like he has the best manager he needs at the moment.

He had more moments early on, but not necessarily good games.

I know he's bad at the moment, but generally he has improved, but he really should start to kick on properly now if he wants to reach his potential.

It's clear all the physical ability and talent is there.

His footballing brain/confidence as you say don't seem to have developed much over the past couple of years, and that is a worry. However, with a good man manager and perhaps some support for confidence issues etc he can improve this. It should be a lot easier to overcome than a lack of actual footballing skill.

I fully trust Koeman to help him reach his full potential.

I think he'll be off.

If he's looking on and seeing lesser players in the first team then he's way too good for bench warming.

Hopefully Koeman knows what he's doing with him. If it's a shot across the bow to get a reaction and it comes, all well and good. Personally, I think that if a manager cant adapt a talent like his then the problem isn't the player it's the coach.

Once Koeman has fully beaten the Martinez out of him we'll see a different player. Some players will adapt to the new regime quicker than others. Martinez should've tightened the reigns on some of the younger players mid-way through that second season, instead of indulging and almost encouraging mistakes without censure. He was the right manager at the right time for those players initially, but hey needed instruction and proper performance management afterwards.

That said though he's been good more than he has been poor so far this season, and looks a lot fitter too.

I know this gets said over and over, but centre mids often take longer to mature. He's frustrating at the moment but he does have the raw talent to be a great midfielder. Let's just be grateful that we have a good manager in place who will hopefully guide him in the right way.
