Hmmm, depends how much we had to pay Martinez, but a 4 year contract at 7m a year is 28m on its own.

Yes but Goat. As @The Esk will tell you. You have to factor into that 4 year period and the revenue we will make.

4 years at £130million revenue per year is £520 million.

£28 million into £520 million doesn't look as bad.

When the manager is a man who could increase commercial revenues further if he performs.

Well provided we get some real businessmen selling the club not that pauper Bill Kenwright.

Surely we would have a case for under performance on a reduced cost?
In truth I've no idea how it works but if he is entitled to 100% pay out of contract then the system is a farce.

Yeah thanks for this meaningless post Damo.

They don't need to be for the purposes of this thread. They're general estimates. Even not considering potential revenue increases.

Hence me declaring it meaningless.

We could appoint Martinez again for 3.5m and still get those revenue figures you posted within 4 years and thats factoring in the relegation to league One we would suffer.

I wonder does this reported £100m war chest include the wage bill as well? Because if it's so then it's not a huge amount greater than what we'd usually pay in a busy window.
I am worried that we are getting carried away with our new commander in chief. He is only worth 1.3billion which makes him closer to Randy Lerner than Roman Abramovich. His wealth is average compared to most owners of most premier league clubs. To be offering 7m a year to Koeman is, in my mind, indicative of the tv deal and not his wealth. Is anyone not a bit concerned that we seem to be putting all our financial eggs in one basket. By that i mean we have a plan of what we want to do and if it doesnt bring us success then that is that. Clubs like City and Chelsea can blow untold millions , make mistakes, and start again. I dont think we are rich enough to do that. I dont think the reason we can pay koeman 7m and southampton cant is not because we have a sugar daddy. Its more because we are prepared to gamble with all our excess tv money and they are not. If the gamble pays off we are laughing but if it doesnt then it may be a fun few years but we could sink like a stone afterwards like villa

I hope i am wrong, maybe The Esk can fill us in on why he is so confident that the future is so solid long term and not short term

This post fascinates me . Most businessmen don't waste their money they look for an opportunity at every tip and turn. I tend to think that the majority of those very wealthy owners areultimatley expecting to turn a profit

Some as we know are already taking tens of millions out and others are seeing their outlay grow that may well be by design , luck or possibly it could be the Midas touch but business is business and with the new monies coming in from the TV deal I personally think we will see significant sums flowing out of football into owners pockets.

I personally think that there is going to be a problem I trying to spend massive in the transfer market for players with a say £15 price tag will expect far more by way of remmuneration than players purchased in the market where Everton have historically recruited from.

The PLs version of FFP and Evertons relatively small historical wage bill is an issue

The rules are that unless wage growth is matched by increases from revenue generation from non media income streams, then the wage bill can only increase by £19 million over the 2012/13 sum or clubs can opt to use last years figures plus £7 million. The 2012/13 option I suspect is already blown out the water and if you are going to pay the sort of sums being suggested for a manager then that cuts out wriggle room!

At this point in time I am unaware of any new or significant uplift to commercial deals which will be able to frank wage increases and input from a benefactor is not allowed

Turnover in the next 4 years should be from a start point of £180-190 million financial year 2016/17 (depending upon team performance) rising to perhaps £220 million in 2019/20 subject to commercial and sponsorship revenues having been renegotiated. A new stadium should add up to £30 million to that figure. Being optimistic and saying we have CL football, revenues by 2021/22 should be in the order of £300 million assuming a similar broadcasting deal.

Hes not our concern anymore mate, hes gonna be somebody elses problem soon.

Sorry I was meaning, when any manager is sacked are they entitled to a full pay out of remainder of contract or does a club have a case to reduce payment due to poor performance as an example?
