Just how do we compete on field and become challengers once again?

Regarding Stones,I think he is 3/4 years away from being top class in that time the defence will suffer from not having a dominant centre half as much as I would like to keep him I think we could replace him for a lot less than he would bring in

I think we need to see who the new manager is going to be first. The incoming manager may not want a young CB taking risks and trying to play the ball out. He may want a Striker who can instantly control the ball and bring the midfield into play, he may want smaller, technically gifted players up front in the same mould as Aguero rather than a battering ram. We don't really know.

Why is everyone in a fap frenzy over having £100m to spend? Likely that'll put us on a par with Swansea, Stoke and West Brom. Transfer fees get inflated, more clubs get wealthier off them, but as none of them really want to make an actual trading profit and pay tax, it ends up filling the pockets of players, agents and executives.

If Moshiri is to do anything, then it should be focused on off-field performance. Not that long ago (before the last TV deal), our neighbours had a commercial income greater than our entire turnover. We've been awful in that department for years, but the flipside is there must be lots of growth opportunities there. A new stadium will be a pre-requisite to that.

In terms of losing players - any club is at that risk. Man U lost Ronaldo when they didn't want to. RS lost Chewy Suarez. As long as the money gained is invested wisely by the manager, you move on. You could argue that RS and Spurs spunked the money they banked from Suarex and Bale.

I expect its mostly because that figure should be prior to any sales. So with Lukaku and Stones gone that could be easily pushing north of £200m

Sell

Lukaku
Mori
Niasse
Osman
Gibson
Oviedo
Kone
Pienaar
Clevely
Lennon
McCarthy

Keep Stones at all cost.

Next priority We need a top class goalkeeper. (20 Mill)

I think our stongest back four at the minute is Coleman, Jags, Stone and Baines. I think this could be a solid enough back four for at least one more season. But we do need to start thinking about replacing Jags and baines. So we could happily buy three or four players at the back.
Personally I would sell Mori if we can get close to the sum recently mentioned. (Sell for 25?) ( 3 new players - around 30 Mill Spending.)

Midfield. I would bring in Rooney if we could get him and budget allowed. I would also sell most of our current Midfield. We should bring in a new dm and a quality winger.

Attack - Get rid of every single one of our current strikers. I like Rom but he doesn't want to be here so should be sold for as much as possible.
Sell for 40 Mill?

Spend 50/60 (Mill.) 2 quality strikers and maybe even a young back-up + Rooney can play there.

Possible Line up:

New Keeper

Coleman, Jags, Stone, Baines

New DM

Mirallas Rooney Barkley Del

New Striker

New Squad:
(New keeper / Robles ) (20Mill)
Coleman, Jags, Stone and Baines (3/4 New DeF) (30 Mill)
Barry Rooney, Barkley, Del, Kev (Midfielders.) (Rooney + 2 New players) (30/40 Mill)
2 Strikers Main/Alt (50/60 Mill.) + younger squad players....

Spending needed about 140/150 Mill after selling the players above would be possible.

For me a clear decsion needs to be made on the philosphey and structure of the club in terms of recruitment and spending:

If we say decide go for a model of spending like say Chelsea i.e. go out every year and buy big name players on high wages and annually top it up to go straight for the jugular in the hope of sustained trophy competitiveness and sustained CL competitivness being the goal.

or

We go for a development model, employ a coach to improve/coach our existing stock of players and buy players now who will grow into their potential in the next 3-5 years to be top stars i.e. Patrick Roberts, Sigurrdsson, Jansenn etc. Let the team augment and develop together i.e. Spurs, in the hope of achieving trophies CL in the next 3 years.

Persoanlly i would have a preference for the latter.

But the choice will be an interesting one and one that will change the club fundamentally.

Three players there who are out of contract and we won't sell - Osman, Gibson, Pienaar

Kone, Niasse and Oviedo should definitely be on the chopping block

We won't be selling Mori for 25 million, no one is offering that, not even Lazio

Lukaku will likely go

McCarthy and Lennon are worth keeping. McCarthy has a bit about him for me.

Cleverley I like but can see a new boss getting rid.

Out of contracts gone, McGeady/McAleny's etc. gone, supplement squad with youth players since they can still play in the reserves, make a decision on Stones & Rom, buy a new spine, stop playing 4-2-3-1 every game, attack the league with young and hungry players.

I wouldn't start throwing money around on huge wages because it's not always a safe option. We don't want to end up like a Leeds or AC Milan.

Do you feel better now?

We all have to be patient. Whoever the new manager may be, we will not be anywhere near title challengers next season or even the season after no matter what money we spend!!

I just want to see progress from last season. A team full of commitment and passion, and one that actually fills me with enthusiasm. I would be happy with a few good quality signings and a europa league qualification next season to be honest!

I'll start this off by saying I am as excited as most with the direction Mr Moshiri appears to be taking our beloved Everton since his arrival in February.

We read of some shrewd off field appointments already in the Moshiri thread, and of possible movements on the horizon with some genuinely talented individuals getting involved in some capacity.

Stadium issue appears to be moving along with finally some news to come soon on a potential site that may excite us.

So my genuine concern at the moment is... "Just how do we compete on field and become challengers once again?"

Our next Manager will have the reported £100m transfer budget, which is exciting us all no end.

But I wake up this morning down here and read that Jose will have £200m to spend on 5 key targets to make Man Utd title contenders next season, including of course our John Stones. Mr Lukaku is as good as gone. Man City with Pep will no doubt have endless to spend to make them Champions next season, Chelsea and even Liverpool will possibly go on similar spending sprees this Summer.

I am genuinely finding it difficult to see just how we are going to be able to catch up when we are constantly going to be losing our best players to these clubs.

Stones and Lukaku this Summer. You just can't lose your best talent and expect to replace them for like.
We need to make a stand at some point and not be a feeder club. Show a sturdy backbone that we won't be pushed over.

Genuine discussion please.

Leicester.

Build a team who work for each other, for 90 minutes, every single game, add a pinch or two of talent, sprinkle over a manager with oodles of experience, stir in a world class back room staff & simmer for 38 matches.

Yep which makes all the transfer speculation at this point a bit pointless.

He's crap, he believes all the hype in the press, he wants to look beautiful on the pitch but hasn't a bloody clue how to defend. If Jags had half his ability he would be the best in the world. If Stones actually pulled his finger out of his arse and started to work he'd be as good as Jags..........

After losing Rooney and doing quite well I would not worry about replacing anybody. I think we should just await the manager and see what he does. If he can shape a team that would be a start. Anyone who wants out can go.

Exactly, it's all about a TEAM. Not the best 11 in the prem, but lads who have a hunger and desire to win, and not just wondering which mercedes they'll buy next.........

Technically he'll have 165+ mil after selling Lukaku, plus a brilliant youth academy and players they should be top 7 at the very least.

It won't be that hard mate.
