Matthew Pennington

You could put a third choice defender from Hull and MK Dons and i am sure they would look better than those who are forced to work under martinez.

If scumberto stays, he will destroy Pennington just like the others
Scumberto? Really?
There is more than enough evidence in our results or lack of to label the man (a nice one at that) with personal insults. Entirely unnecessary.

Barring when he was fouled for their goal, thought he was really good and composed. Great start to a hopefully long Premier League career with us.

Shall we Persil him in for a starting CB slot next week?
Think we'll need to if we're looking for clean sheets.

He's a "proper defender" in the Jags style , so the perfect partner for Stones in that he's happy to let Stones go waltzing forward and provide the cover, knows his limitations and where he can plays the simple ball, even if it goes backwards.
This is where I worry about the quality of our back room staff, without wishing to turn this into a fume thread. They should be working with him on defensive drills all week , talking about positioning when defending, what he does when Stones goes forwards, where he positions himself at corners etc. Ironically probably the best person to do this is Jagielka, get him involved in helping the lad. Forget about the nonsense of needing 50/100 games , 1000 training hours or whatever just give him practical support and help him to perform to his best.

We all want to see younger players given the chance to succeed and we, understandably, give them a lot of leeway and tend to overestimate their performances. However, in regards to Pennington we have to face the fact that he's cost us a goal a game in the 2 games he's started. It's clear what his future holds; a £38 million bid from Chelsea.

Really unfair to judge him when the rest of the team ain't arsed and when he's got Stones and Oviedo next to him.

As with a lot of the team, did 90% right today and showed some inexperience. The penalty wasn't his fault, Vardy was offside. You have to expect him to not be 100% right at his age and it's as much a fault of younger players around him and senior players letting us down.

It's important with young players to see what they can do as well as what they can't do. He blocks very well, quite comfortable on the ball and got a number of good tackles in today. In a side that was getting hammered with little protection in front of him I thought he played quite well again today.

He will feel horrible right now but experiences like this will do him the world of good in the long run.

I really think there's a prospect here.

His biggest strength is his mental attributes. He looks like he belongs in the team and I hope whoever the new manager is doesn't write him off. He gets a lot of blocks and his tackle on Vardy at the end was very good.

Feel a bit sorry for him, he's playing in a team where the senior pro's have gone awol, most probably the worse scenario for a young player to be introduced. All things considered I think he's doing pretty well.
