Very possibly - but again any money saved on his departure is, for me, good money. That said I do accept that we risk losing more money for league positions if he isn't removed - though of course we could also pay him off AND drop down the league. But of a gamble I guess. Plus I don't think we will catch Stoke (sob) so we aren't speculating on a potential greater income if we change.

That said, it does show the moral fibre of the man that he has absolutely no intention of resigning. He'll just keep taking the cash and professional pride be damned.

I think he might simply be deluded enough to genuinely believe the board still share his vision.

And he probably would have been right if it was still up to Kenwright.

Equally though mate, wealthy people stay wealthy by not setting fire to money or giving it away for no reason.

If he genuinely thinks we are totally safe and can save £2m - or the wages of a mid level squad player for the season - what's the point.

And from a moral standpoint I wouldn't want to be giving Martinez a £2m pay off for his performance, would you?
The only problem with this approach is we could easily lose more than 2 million by keeping him on.

Don't disagree at all - put that in the next post.

Could be nearly a £6m downswing on it if we fall far enough.

For me, I just find that paying Martinez £2m if it is avoidable is abhorrent

It's 2mil euro's, no?
Factor in 1.5mil sterling per league position, and potentially selling players at a lower value mate.
So we should just give away £2m to a man who doesn't deserve it for the sake of waiting four basically meaningless weeks?

Not sure I see the logic of this.

Not convinced by the decline in value of players now linked to final league position - is a 25 goal a season striker worth less for where his team finishes? Doesn't really reflect his scoring ability. But do agree that lower places = less TV money. But for me you are gambling the pay off against MAINTAINING the current league position as there is limited chance of improving it. Plus, again, giving avoidable money to Martinez

All I get when I discuss Martinez with friends and work colleagues is "why do you want him sacked? He's doing a decent job. You're not going down and in a safe mid table position. Where do you think he should have you? Top 6? don't be unrealistic".

Totally depressing and it's driving me bonkers.

I get the same. Spoke to someone recently who said he viewed Nottingham Forest and Leeds as bigger clubs than us. I don't think he was on the wind up either.

Have to say his squad management has been dreadful all season. He's hung Osman, Gibson and to a lesser extent Besic out to dry all season, when he could have given them all a lot more playing time - and then starts them in semi finals and expects them to turn in performances.
