I'm now convinced that they're not going to sack him until they have a replacement signed up. And I can only assume they haven't sorted that bit yet. There's no other logical reason why he is still employed.
I still don't see that tbh, or at least they will let him go and then negotiate with the new man before unveiling him. Come the end of the season there is plenty of dead time in which to get on with that, meaningless to rush it through just to announce it, does no-one any favours.

Here's a strange idea for us to consider (pin hopes to)...

The delay in dismissing Martinez might be due to it taking a little longer than expected to dot the i's and cross the t's on a staggering appointment to replace him.

The job awaiting the new manager is a big one, a massive one as the whole mindset within the club needs to alter course. This is a genuine project, a chance for the right person to mould a club, a team, a fan base into a dynasty.

I'm leaning towards thinking that we're not getting any kind of also-ran or up-and-coming manager, that we are working hard on genuine top quality candidate who is seeking plenty of assurances from the new owner who is doing his utmost to provide them in such a way as to give the manager total authority to re-build our club with a five-year target of minimum CL qualification and (at least) one domestic cup.

I live in hope for that. To get the best available or the 2nd best, or 3rd best I imagine there would be a lot of talking and prep.

Not like compared to Eddie Howe or Shaun Dyche who'd bite your hand off at the chance to manage Everton.

No matter what Martinez says or how nice of a man he may be the fact is we are two points ahead of a Crystal Palace side managed by Alan Pardew who went on a 14 game winless streak and are in an FA Cup final.

Tell you now this season has the Wigan relegation special stink all over it the only difference this time is that Martinez has Lukaku up top rather than Arouna Kone. Rom may of fluffed his lines on Saturday but without him we would be in serious trouble.

You had me at strange idea....

Unlike us, if they had, they'd have got shut of him pretty sharpish

That's why RM turned down the RS job before. He realised he was a fraud, more likely to be exposed in that job and booted out promptly. As I said yesterday somewhere else, RM carefully picked us, knowing that he could manipulate and hoodwink a gushy old luvvy romantic like Bill with a load of waffly guff.

He really is the man. We should have got him 3 years ago. This is a manager Everton.

What. A. Manager

But that is the thing, the media take one side and push for that. right now, you wouldn't think Martinez was a dead man walking when you put sky sports on and the keeper is praising him, or a former player is praising him elsewhere. that is my point, when it comes to teams who do have ambition, chelsea liverpool united for example then you get the media actually asking questions, writing up negative pieces and touting the job out before they have officially gone. We don't get that, which tells you the media don't want him sacked, pundits think we are in a fair position, in fact the only ones calling him for what he is are the fans.

In the grand scheme of things, it alters public perception of what is going on, and in turn public perception of us as a club. If we had sacked him yesterday, there was always going to be two outcomes media wise, either not good enough, has to go. Or, everton harshly sack martinez despite getting us this far.

The media has a lot to answer for and the neutral fan is only too happy to take a swig of the coolaid!

In response to my frustration/anger at Roberto at work last week I got a lot of 'I like Martinez seems to be doing a good job', 'at least he's trying to play the right way' and so on, then last night one of mates said 'I see all the fans want moyes back'
