Joel Robles

Our new keeper a ray of sunlight yet you still find excuses to critique him?????
I'm not critiquing him. I don't know how much more explicit I can be about that. He's been everything we could have possibly hoped for. It isn't his fault that it hasn't made any difference in our results. Everton's results for the last couple of seasons (and probably for about as far back as you want to count until you hit Neville Southall) have had almost nothing to do with who has been in goal. You can say that about most clubs in the Premier League, actually.

Really Degea saves unt loads of points each season - Robles has saved us from a relegation battle, it's so nice to see a keeper stand upright, and not fall on his backside like Timmy if you are saying a good keeper is not necessary then why are we letting Timmy go two years too late???
Look at Leicesters keeper compare him to Timmy there's your answer!

How has Robles saved us from a relegation battle? We're worse off now than we were when he took over! Since he's been our starter, we have twelve points from eleven matches. Like I said, he's been good and it's not his fault, but the goalkeeping switch just hasn't helped.

Look, De Gea is one of those handful of elite keepers who actually make a significant difference. He's definitely won points for United on his own. If you think Schmeichel's on that same level, though, I don't think you've watched many Leicester games. He hasn't been bad or anything, but swap him out with Gomes or Cech or Adrián and I think Leicester are still winning the league.

Take a look at some of the clubs who have changed goalkeepers during the season and compare their results with their "starter" in goal and their "backup". There's hardly any difference. Just like there's been no improvement at Everton since Joel took over. The only team that has seen any sort of improvement after benching their starter this season has been Sunderland, and that probably has more to do with Allardyce taking over the club at the same time.

Joel didn't make a difference. We're still conceding easy goals. IMO, we threw the hot potato from one hand (Howard) to the other (Joel) and now both are burned badly. Different type of easy goals conceded. A new manager will likely want his own GK as well.

To be fair to @mlyons here, he's saying Joel has come in and done well (he has) but that just a change of goalie isn't enough alone to change around our defensive issues. They have deeper roots than that.

For what its worth, I rate Joel, think he should be given next season at least to prove why he should remain as first choice.

He'll look better with a better defence in front of him no doubt.

Eh, it was Robles who saved the pen at Bournemouth or, knowing the team's power of recovery, we would have been out.

And the draws at Palace and Watford were backed by a good goalie effort.

So, he has made a difference. More so than any other player.

Even now as we are about to witness RM's sacking, I simply do not understand why he waited so long to drop Howard when all the evidence that Howard had lost it was there. Did RM not see the Palace home game last season?

Don't give yourself a headache mate trying to rationalize delusional happenings.

Your argument is paper thin and fortunately the game isnt played on paper.

If Howard had been punted before the season started and Robles had started from the first match until now and also kept this level of performance we would be 10pts better off.

Any number of other factors have affected the team such as Stones breakdown under Howard and the players turning mutinous against the manager...

If Howard was in goal he is so poor he would have us in the relegation zone as hes so bad he actually has nullified Lukakus goals in the first half of the season.

....I have defended Howard as a fine keeper and servant to this club but i really think Robles' performances have been underestimated because of the teams poor results. He's been excellent when finding himself regularly in one on one situations and made some excellent saves. Bottom line is he's deserved being the clubs No1, absolutely no doubt about that.

Why do you write an essay, when the obvious is there on the subject?
Are you related to the banned great Dithering Doug?

Robles has been really good for us and is looking like a quality keeper. Anyone who cant see that either doesnt deserve eyes or has some kind of bizarre agenda.

Hes not the finished article dont get me wrong, but he has stepped up massively since coming into the team.

This. Plenty of things concern me about Everton at the moment, but not the goalkeeper.

Which is funny, as it was probably what worried me the most 7 or 8 months ago.

Doesnt matter how the teams performed or how many points they've picked up.

FACT is that Robles has made considerably less mistakes/errors that have led to goals than Tim Howard did. Its as simple as that. If the team was playing well we'd still concede with Howard in due to the fact he was making the same errors for 18months. Stick a good, well drilled team in front of Robles and we're laughing.

In that split second eggs when Martial raced through to slot I actually thought Joel would not be beaten. Like you said, one v one he's a giant frame and quite imposing.

One of the very few positives of the season.
