Good answer I don't want moyes back to be honest but think he done well with what he had to work with at the time us fans want results and trophies it's owed to us now but whoever thinks yesterday's second half was Martinez doing is mistaken he's taken the fight and confidence away from them

Moyes had sides with everything you are talking about with Everton...sadly he lacked the guts to do what Ranieri is pulling off with Leicester.

While I don't think he'll ever get back there, Martinez's first season was not far off from what you are talking about.
I dont entirely disagree on that last point, with the one caveat that Martinez' defensive naiveties were possibly masked by the fact that the team he inherited were all schooled in the Moyes mindset! So had Martinez followed a manager like Mike Walker, i think he would have had us relegated in his first season!

I dont hate Martinez, he seems uinely nice guy and has done some great things for us off the pitch, but no manager can be considered good or potentially great when they have so little grasp on what is such a fundamental part of the game, i.e. Defending!

I think if you look at the statements from Martinez he's correct on 2 counts:

A-- The value of the squad is greater than hes spent
B-- Hes really had minimal investment

Bar Niasse I think you can put his signings into several categories:

1-- Cheap punts
2-- Free signings
3-- Short term stopgaps
4-- Long term signings

Until the Niasse signing his (4) long term signings were Lukaku,Mori,McCarthy,Deulofeu Besic, Galloway for money.

I think based upon that he would have made an ideal director of football given funds to spend ONLY on that category of player.

To answer your question on Moyes its really hard to gauge how he would line up the team. I dont think Mori or Stones would get regular games under him if he had other Jagielka ultra defensive type options, also Deulofeu and Lukaku and Barkley would likely suffer under him.

I think he would be a failure at getting the best out of this squad, we need a manager who is adept tactically to play attacking football like De Boer OR someone like Mourinho who can bring in players to improve the quality of the team.

Moyes was good at getting the best out of limited players to improve the team.
Minimal investment?

Mate, please if you are going to quite numbers in your posts actually do a minimal about of research first.

74 million spent, 10 received in transfers over the last 2 seasons.

Does anyone seriously know whether we are able to get refund of season tickets before first game of season?!

Only got back at 3 am

Why at one point was Baines at centre midfield and Jags left back?!

I thought this perception of Martinez was wrong. A quick player in and out search over the last two seasons has seen us spend a net 64 million on players. Moyes actually went 2 seasons without spending money on a transfer.

Why compare to Moyes? He went two seasons out of 11 which was ample time to build a squad.

Martinez' net spend is only over £60mil if you use figures like

Joel £2mil
Galloway £4mil
Barry £2mil
Besic £4mil

Which are incorrect yet used on toffeeweb etc.Of course 3 of them are appearance based like Besic £2.5mil rising to £4mil for example.

If we look at Moyes numbers ignoring 11 years then Martinez could sell Stones and Lukaku + replace them and we would also be breakeven.

For me its about the amounts he has spent on individuals straight into the first team at a reasonable spend for each -- Lukaku--Mori--McCarthy are the only notable signings + Niasse.

Literally all the others are for free or low cost under £5mil.

Bar Lukaku at £28mil hes not actually had a big lump sum to go out and sign a couple of top players for big amounts at the same time.

I think if he was a director of football he would do a very good job.

Sadly, I witnessed at least two extremely, shall we say, heated discussions between Blues yesterday.
The first began about ten minutes into the game and carried on till half time when the main protagonist was taken out by stewards and patently told to stfu or be ejected... He sensibly chose to stfu.
The second was post game on the concourse where another small group where going at it verbally, hammer and tongs.
Thankfully, it was all just verbals and borne out of obvious and totally understandable frustration.

What was the gist of the arguments?

Does that mean you disagree with the first point? Just wondering.

IMO, Moyes had sides that could have done what Leicester have pulled off...sadly the man wasn't good enough to take things to the next level. I think folks have rated our current squad on potential versus actual ability.

Sorry, why are you discounting any transfer of 5 million and below as money not actually spent?

The tactics are the problem - or lack of them. Utd set out yesterday with 3 at the back to mark Rom .. The full backs pushed up all of time so our wide men had to go with them .. Simple tactics but not hard to work out .. It same old story every game and awful to see .. I think in the second half yesterday the players , stones especially said .f..k this let just have a go and tactics were ignored .. Much better then ... So what does that tell us ? Simple really - Roberto must go ... !

I think if we had a top LW and started with Deulofeu their defence would have been unable to push up especially the full backs....too much danger from our front 4 then. But having Clev/Lennon with 2 DMs just invites teams to attack us.

For an attacking manager the lineup and lineups recently have been feeble.

LVG is in the final and could get top 4 and already been replaced by Jose.

I bet we haven't even started looking at alternatives and when we do it will be likes of Moyes, Hughes and etc.

Thinking the same mate about my season ticket. I won't to renew but not with him still in charge, so if he was still there by the time the first game came around, I'd want my money back.
