How some people want the bloke to stay if he wins the cup astounds me. Do you seriously want more of this crap next season? A cup win isn't going to change the awful tactics, lack of a plan B, poor game management and shoddy defensive organisation/drilling from the manager. And if anything it'll be worse next season with Rom and his 20 goals gone/ lack of the whipping boys Villa and Newcastle gifting us 6 points each.

I honestly want the bloke gone regardless as next season at best it'll be 12th at worst relegation.

Yup. So if we win 2 of our next 10 games some people will be happy

That is about his ratio

As an expert in this kind of thing, having spent a lifetime wondering what management are thinking, it could make sense for Martinez to offer his resignation now. It would be his way to show the club how much this all means to him - How he is more upset than anyone. A gesture that answers the criticism that he is ploughing on regardless with no ability to change - This is his attempt to take stock and say "It has gone a bit wrong, and if you think it is just because of me, then I am happy to step down - or give me the chance to win you the Cup and we talk about it later"
Martinez would also feel safe as the club are probably not ready to line up a replacement so quickly - and have actually only just got their heads around the idea of changing managers - So, it was pretty much guaranteed that they would refuse.
Also Martinez would gamble on Moshiri feeling he would have nothing to gain from accepting a resignation now - unless a new manager was already lined up - as if the semi is lost after accepting a resignation, then it would no longer be Martinez fault.

That does make a weird sort of sense.

Controversial I know but our trophy drought is embarrassing, if he wins it he should at least be given one last shot.

If I said a mid table finish and a trophy at the start of the season would you have accepted it?

We will have to improve our league form to even get back into mid table

I was gonna write something along the lines of it being martinez 'getting his in first' (so to speak); but

A/ I don't believe it happened, and,

B/ cba writing a drawn out reason.

In Moyes second season when we finished 4th to bottom, he lost the players. Stubbs and Ferguson led the revolt.

That summer we lost Rooney and somehow Moyes regained the trust of the players and we finished 4th. It could happen again, not saying it will but it's possible it could happen with Martinez as manager. Pulls off a derby victory next week, them wins in the semifinal and he potentially could buy him another season if he goes on to win the FA cup.

Stranger things have happened.

it may just be spin to show how honest and worthy he is - an attempt to get a bit of breathing space. I have noticed a little bit more pro-Martinez feeling today.

Quite possibly mate. RM himself hasn't confirmed or denied, and no journalist of repute (Shurely shome mishtake?) has murmured owt of it...At least not that I'm aware of.

Posted this in the old Martinez thread when he first took over. I was singing his praises after his first season but now looking back my initial concerns now seem somewhat founded (I say 'somewhat' because he still could lead us to a cup victory before this season is out).

I'm firmly of the opinion that he needs to be replaced, and it actually makes me a bit sad to say that.
