I agree with that but it's a little dull so obviously the press and lots on here took it to mean all the players don't get on. Seems he's likely apologised for allowing that interpretation. Why should the manager explain more?
You don't have to prove he's constantly at fault for everything to make a decision on whether he's what Everton need.

He didn't provide the context that baines meant though did he? that's my point! defo fallen out with baines over this whatever was meant.......

Where are all these excuses? It is possible that a manager can provide analysis of why things have happened and it's actually what's happened.
He isn't going to say he doesn't know what he's doing and nobody would respect him for doing that.
As for the Baines stuff, again what was he supposed to say and not have people berating him. He said that the player apologised not that he was forced to. It sounded to me like he may have apologised because the words were taken out of context. And possibly players were upset. Absolutely nothing unusual about how this was handled and one of the dullest ten minutes I've spent.

He said that 15 or 16 of the squad are having amazing campaigns, with some of them having the best campaigns of their careers. This is utter bobbins.

He said that we aren't underperforming, because in order to underperform you have to have previously achieved something and then not achieve it any more. This suggests that he does not view finishing higher than we currently are in the table as an achievement. This is bobbins.

He said that we aren't reliant on any one player, not even Rom. This is bobbins.

He talked an AWFUL lot of bobbins, and the common theme was, "we're doing well and if we aren't then it's not my fault."

That's because the first line of the article is a direct Baines quote that only Roberto Martinez and one other person don't want to admit actually exists.

"Leighton Baines has lifted the lid on Everton’s troubles by admitting: 'There’s no chemistry between the players right now'."

Yes Roberto, completely misquoted was Leighton there ;)

Setting aside the reasons for our poor run, after reading Martinez's comments regarding Baines and his interview a few questions sprung to mind:

1. Is Baines a respected, well-liked and highly thought of individual by other players in the dressing room?
2. Is what he said a fair and honest portrayal of the current situation?
3. Was Baines just in making such remarks to the press?
4. Is Martinez a respected, well-liked and highly thought of manager by his players in the dressing room?

If the answer is yes to the first two, then I think by chastising Baines (be that publicly or in private) Martinez may risk alienating more people.

Subsequently, if players who've said yes to the first two also believe answer to the third question is yes, then I think four will answer itself.

Aspects of the interview for me stunk of desperation, division and with regards to Martinez, an alienation from the true situation at hand.

We can only surmise what the players think from what we see and hear, but if it's even slightly akin to the feelings of then fans then... well...

... I just don't think think we've got a completely happy camp. Putting the boot in to a semi-professional may not help that.

Why should he. It would still possibly sound critical of the players and best left alone to sort in training in my opinion

Unless its injuries or suspension then I think you will find the original post has more credit than your reply mate :)
It would be interesting to see how many games barry/McCarthy have played together, maybe throw the besic/McCarthy one in there when barry is suspended or injured, compare it then to the amount of times barkley/McCarthy partnership has started a game never mind finished the game...

I think interestingly enough, Martinez would of thought about life after Barry and may of considered playing one holding midfielder only, that was until the Chelsea 6-3 result in which everyone noticed flaws in the system of going all out attack or taking risks like he did in his first year...

Roberto Martinez claims that Leighton Baines‘ recent quotes about Everton‘s chemistry on the pitch were misinterpreted.

The left back was quoted earlier in the week by various media outlets over a lack of understanding between the players in recent matches.

His remarks were interpreted by many Evertonians as being honest and potentially proving that faith in Blues boss Martinez was fading among the first team squad.

But, speaking ahead of the weekend trip to Watford, Martinez dismissed the concerns attributed by Baines, and said the 30-year-old defender’s quotes had been misconstrued.

“I think it is very disappointing when you see a misinterpretation of certain words a player says,” the Spaniard said.

“Clearly, this has been taken out of context in the way that it has come out.

“I had a chat with Leighton and he knows he has to take responsibility for those words.

“He has been given the opportunity to attract a meaning that is, perhaps, not right or correct and for that he has apologised and taken responsibility for leaving those words open.

“But that is what we expect of a senior Everton figure – to take responsibility, to make sure we speak on the pitch and the way to do that is against Watford.

“As I say, those quotes have been taken out of context but Leighton has taken responsibility.

“He has put himself in a position where he has given the wrong words but he has apologised and is ready to move forward.”
