Haha! I'll probably change my opinion by tomorrow, mind.

Sit on the fence like I've been, it's easier not to get vaulted lol

Having now left the fence and joined the Plotters, I'm open to it. I can't see there being any issues though, Martinez may win us a trophy, and I'm not downplaying that, but long term I believe it's over.

Cos this squad is a top 6/7 squad, simple. Always has been. A good squad does not mean you always get the right result. Ask the manager why.

Top 6 squad?

Useless keeper
No left midfield
No back up striker
No playmaker

Not for me...Howard alone caused us a lot of points to be dropped and weve seen alot of individual errors + zero depth in central midfield as well.

I agree. Add to that a few more overrated footballers by the supporter base.

He signed both Barry and McCarthy mate. That doesn't mean he's forever locked into playing two defensive midfielders, but it's plainly something he's comfortable with.

Dead right of course.

I'm just of the opinion that in the centre, we have those two and Besic as options (Gibson seems to have downed tools as didnt even go on loan despite risking his euros place and osman is done).

So weve got 3 players there for 2 positions at a cost of £15mil+. However im not sure if Besic was signed to replace Barry (not inconceivable due to his age) or that he and McCarthy were to compete for one place.

I think if Martinez had £20mil and was going to sign a central midfielder we would see real quality come in there (based on my opinion of his other signings for real money) and look far stronger.

I mean lets say he found the new Busquets for example, then who would play next to him?

...HOWARD didn't pick himself mate. Week after week after week...

Thats 100% true.

I wonder why he was picked and why he was suddenly jettissoned then got the move at the end of the season.

I mean, Martinez for all the faults people can poke at him would see howard throwing the ball in the net.

Its easy to blame Martinez but i do wonder what factors were behind him playing howard....

...often wondered that meself mate because it was CLEAR to see that it just wasn't happening for Tim was it. On the flipside often also wondered would a spell benched early doors maybe have recovered his mojo, so to speak.

Guess we'll never know eh...

It does feel though as yet again, we are on the verge of a missed opportunity when the football playing field is so open. I don't want to see another season along these lines while the others move on.
Think that's fair enough. If we stopped blaming him for everything we may even get to a clear idea of what might happen.
Certainly think the board will have been looking at it from the perspective of the club having a big opportunity and whether we will we be further down the line in a couple of seasons if Martinez stays. A lot of this will have already gone on and I doubt recent results matter to them. I presume they've looked at who he's brought in, their potential values to the club and in the market. And they'll have looked at a lot of things we probably don't know much about in terms of whether we are going in the right direction throughout the club.
He's come from Arsenal so will be used to fan unrest and the pros and cons of management stability.
Personally I think Martinez will be gone in the next two seasons regardless of how well we do. But I reckon it'll be a quiet, mutually agreed affair with the next manager having been carefully selected even with some input from Martinez.

Chelsea / Arsenal / Spurs / Man City /Man Utd for me are going to be the top 5 unless someone has an amazing season (leicester/west ham).

Its not even about net spend with them as they have either spent a fortune or they have a stable group of players.

My thinking is purely on the squad basis. If youre going to implement a style and vision it takes time or less time but more money.

I like what Martinez represents, i like the signings he makes and id like to see him improve a few positions before i judge him.

I think thats a fair outlook.

I've never bought into the idea playing Howard was just terrible judgment. It was getting so obvious it was effecting not just the team's form but the manager's future that I think there had to be more behind it.
My theories go from over protecting Robles to his hands being tied as we pursued American investment.

Its just odd. Added in Howards book, his media comments and performances....smacked of pure arrogance.

I think he and others backed martinez the 2nd season and then this season theyve all realised theyre out the door and turned on him.

Those like gibson have refused moves and others have not been able to be shifted due to the transfer windows. Not like the old days when players could be immediately moved on.

So when finally these guys are off in the summer its a positive for us and martinez as they will also free up wages.

Going to be alot of changes i think.
