What difference does it make really apart from a bit extra money that shouldnt effect us as fans anyway.

I didnt celebrate coming 5th.

As for the topic of the thread, a banner would be pathetic. Its not very Everton and we are going to Wembley soon with a chance of winning the cup. Lets see it play out first and look at it in the summer.
What difference does it make!!! hahahahahahahaha

"We will lose anyway"

Bizarre mate. Absolutely bizarre.
Yeah, because THAT was the point I was making.

Under Martinez this season, we have failed to beat ANY of the teams left in the Cup with us. 5 of our 9 wins have come against the bottom 3 or 4 teams in the league, with another against a Chelsea side who were in utter free fall at the time.

We've had two long cup runs, but those involved beating the likes of Barnsley, Reading, Norwich (needed pens), Middlesbrough, Dagenham and Redbridge, Carlisle, Bournemouth and finally the ONE result you'd class as good, Chelsea.

Our last two games have been some of our worst performances in years, and the players seem to have lost trust/belief in the manager.

So please, explain to me how protesting at his woeful underperformance is the irresponsible thing to do?

The players will be affected? Well I bloody hope so! If they still have the manager's back, maybe they'll put in an extra 10% or so to try to save him.

If they don't, well then he should be gone ASAP.

Is your first point honest to god serious?
Would have thought it was blindingly obvious, but the difference is that if you're consistently around 5th/6th, there's a much higher chance that at some point you'll exceed that performance level and crack the top 4. What happens if we marginally exceed our performance level now? Oooooh, we might finish top half!!

Or even on a MORE obvious level, it means the 30 odd thousand people that go to Goodison every week and pay a fortune for the privilege get to... Guess what.... See us win more games!!

And as for a banner being "not very Everton"

You're actually right there. Heaven forbid we give the appearance of being a fanbase who won't sit there idly being spoon fed football and results that we (rightly) don't believe are good enough.

Yes its serious. Top half, top 6, its all varying degrees of nothingness that results in bugger all. I wont be telling my grandkids about that brilliant season that we came 6th. I will be telling them about when we won the cup in 2016 (if we do obviously...erm and if I had kids which I dont...)

Its a banner. I bloody banner! Its pathetic. Do you think the people in charge of the club dont see that there is a problem and that some of the fans dont like Martinez (and many never have lets face it).

Some crude logo daubed on some scruffs sweaty bedsheet isnt going to open their eyes any further. What it may do though is scupper any remote chance we have of actually winning something this season, the season has been rubbish, of course it has, but we still stand a chance of winning something.

It makes no sense to me at all, lets kick off about a manager who has got us to a semi final (thats not an achievement of course....) with a chance of actually winning something because he is failing at making us one of the better placed losers in the league.

Banners and planes and all this stampy footed childlike nonsense is a horrible side effect of modern football.

Not arsed what you'll tell them, but if our current trend of league form continues and we continue to persist with this clueless small-time moron in charge, you'll be telling them about the time we beat Bristol City in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final in 2021 one day

Well done on singularly ignoring my response to your first point. So it makes no odds where we finish eh?

Let's leave aside the fact that finishing in and around 12th makes a push for CL qualification impossible... Presumably you don't venture to Goodison much if you're not bothered about whether we walk away from the majority of our games with a win, or with another loss and the fans feeling like ****?

And if demanding better from an underperforming manager, or even demonstrating that the board need to do something about the situation at a club we all plough a small fortune into is "stampy footed nonsense", then *stamp stamp stamp*

What a load of complete and utter nonsense!! I take it you don't go to the games? You and all the other idiots on here who trot out the pathetic "5th or 15th what's the difference".

Well I do go to the games, and it may come as a shock to you, but I actually like watching us win when I'm there!!

A few seasons ago we finished 5th, and I thoroughly enjoyed the season as a whole. More often than not I came away from the ground with a smile on my face and my whole weekend was made.

This season we're sitting in 12th with the poorest home record in a season from our entire history to date.

Time after time I've come away from Goodison feeling like I want to cry after seeing us losing matches from winning positions and generally being utterly toilet.

Whole weekend ruined.

So to someone like me, YES it does bloody well make a difference being 5th or 12th!!!

It's these bits that make no sense.

You reckon a banner would make no difference to what the board think of the manager, but think it will have an effect on us winning something?

Not sure that makes sense.

You play to win stuff

Erm what? I responded to it in the first paragraph! Im not saying it makes no odds, I'm just saying its not the end of the world either if we dont come slightly further up the table without winning anything. At the end other day it all results in the same thing, not winning anything. You mentioned about being in and around the top 4 and maybe exceeding expectations one year? We were in and around it for about 10 years and other than one anomaly of a season we never broke into the top 4 did we? And who is top of the league now? They didnt do it by hanging around the top 4 for years either.

Whether I go or not is none of your business but if you must know I went for many years watching some absolute dross (Smith, Walker, Kendall Mk III) but dont go as much these days due to health. I dont recall anywhere near the vitriol that Martinez gets from some with any of the other managers, certainly nothing banner worthy.

Demanding is a horrible term when it comes to football. Hoping is nice. Demanding better from a manager who is still in with a chance of winning a trophy this year, something that we have not done with great regularity for 2 generations now is a bit weird to me yeah if I am being honest. Just to clarify, I'm not "happy" with the current situation, far from it. All I am saying is just for now, whilst we still stand a chance of winning something, can we not just knock all this demanding better stuff on the head and see what happens. If we get stuffed in the semis and carry on with our poor form in the league for the rest of the season then feel free to break out your pritt stick and glitter and make a banner.

Not sure that makes sense.

No I didnt say that. I meant the board will already be aware of the situation and dont need a banner to point it out to them.

I just think it makes us look like knobs to be honest. I dont want bellends like Tyler sneering at us for flying a banner demanding Martinez's head the same year that he won us a cup (if it happens which it may not of course).

Papa....let me start by saying I fully agree with you about planes and banners.

I have outlined my objections to such things earlier in the thread.

What I want to discuss is that "top half, top six is all varying degrees of nothingness that results in bugger all".

No, they are not.

If we were sitting sixth right now there would not be this rancour and discord among the fans and players.

We would be gripped by the type of cup fever that usually accompanies a run to the semi final but is strangely lacking this time.

Why?

Because we would have won a darn sight more games.

The whole crux of this crisis is the fact we have won three league games since Christmas.

Losing matches eats away at the confidence of both players and fans.....especially when for the most part you play well and should be taking sommat from them.

Which in all honesty is practically every game we have lost during that run......Arsenal bring the exception.

This is why it is utter tripe Dave suggesting 5th and 15th are the same thing.

They aren't.....simply because the higher you finish the more matches you have won and that fact alone creates a better atmosphere for all concerned.

As it is all optimism is leaking out of the fans as match days approach....we have felt this for a while and now the players seem to be making it clear it is happening to them as well.

So if I get this right you don't care about what a number of our fans want regarding our final league position but you do care about what Tyler thinks or says about us?

I'm not sure I agree with your priorities.
