I can appreciate that the spiritual home is Goodison, and I do like & understand the feeling of history as each game is played but, what is Goodison park once those stands are torn down for redevelopment?
The stands will be gone which leaves the pitch & surrounding neighbourhood, is that what Goodison is? The walk to the Pubs, to the ground, is that Goodison?
Whilst it's hard to let go of all that tradition at that location, a redevelopment will change the atmosphere just as much as a totally new ground.
As much as I get standing where your ancestors watched the game can be awesome, I think the appeal of Goodison comes from the fans anyway. Regardless of whether it's a new ground or redevelopment, it'll be the fans that create the atmosphere and forge a new history for the club.
