Roberto Martinez discussion

He inherited a team that was drilled, drilled and drilled in defensive setups, the team was a unit; he added attacking flair and it worked brilliantly.

But over the past 18 months it's been dismantled and we are extremely weak at the back. Results speak fir themselves

Yeah...our defense against WBA was awful, wasn't it? Gave up a fluke goal and completely dominated the game. Created chances with 10-11 behind the ball. On another day we score 3 or 4. Making far too much out of this game. It was a game we were unlucky not to win. Nothing more, nothing less. Can't group the WBA game in with some of the dire performances we've had...we played well and should have won...it just didn't happen. One of those days.

I do agree we were unlucky but only for 60mins. I think the main beef for me was not bringing on kev. Kone is ineffective.

Another superdaveyminime.

Or you're right. Emperor Martinez is indeed fully clothed

Don't forget distin was a power house that season too. We miss a dominent CB.

Why sack Lawrence and create a fuss,
Just throw the crowd under the Bus.

He's still defended, him and Dennis,
But not by me, i'm not a penis.

We were unlucky to lose yesterday, but this is far more than everyone knee jerking after the last game.

Its plain to see he is very limited tactically. Their defence was one of the slowest bunch of yard dogs in the league, and we played right into their hands. No balls down the side of the centre half for a striker to get on to, or over the top. We never got in behind them once. Instead all the play was in front of them then when did get it wide our crossing was easy to deal with.

People complaining the crowd make it hostile for our own players need to look at the way we play to realise the managers tactics are frustrating everybody. We have got a very good squad, but he is not using them as well as he could. One striker at home, two defensive midfielders (Barry was a lot better than McCarthy) says it all. Great away tactics, not when dirge like West Brom are coming to Goodison.

Martinez needs to realise that the ends don't justify the means with Kone. Yes, he enables Lukaku, but all that does is help justify the big fee paid to Chelsea, rather than improve the overall performance of the team. It must be brilliant for teams to come to Goodison and not have to worry one bit about defending their right side.

He could also do with adjusting his tactics to suit the players he has. This is definitely a group of players that thrive on the counter, and yet he remains obsessed with possession.

Really disappointed with the way yesterday was handled.

Martinez goes into most games with the Goodison crowd especially split maybe 50/50 in the love, hate relationship. 3, 3-0 wins on the bounce didn't change this notion and the West Brom game was important in a number of ways.

He started really well and the support was shown from the crowd it seemed in the early stages of the game, as the previous winning formulae including Joel was played which I would say at least 90% of us wanted to see happen.

...It was from here where he lost it all the faith over again though! Ok, so we were unlucky, we absolutely battered them and ultimately lost 1-0... but Martinez could have kept the support behind him very easily by making the right subs. We were 1-0 down, why do we still have 2 holding midfielders playing? Why do you sub your best player on the day (Lennon) who was the only one looking deadly, in a like for a like sub instead of sacrificing a holding player for another attacking outlet.

It's going round Facebook that Mirallas threw his gloves at Martinez after warming up, only to see Osman and Kone go on to be given the nod.

Appalling man and squad-management to be honest if you ask me. Diabolical decision making in the substitute department once again, which remains a familiar trait in my mind... and to be honest, I'm not even saying different subs would have definitely won the game. We could have even over-attacked and lost 2-0, but if we went for it a bit more and used common sense by utilising our squad and playing to its strengths I would have been less miffed about the result and more focused on what we are building on. As it is, I don't know what we are building on.

That was a game crying out for two wingers to strech WBA's deep defence. But we only had one at anyone time.

RM likes to play with one wideman tucking in and for that role Cleverley is boss as he was at Stoke.
However yesterday we needed to change tactics at half-time. Two wideman to attack their fullbacks and get to the by-line. In previous years we never had two good wingers but yesterday we had Lennon playing out of his skin and Del Boy who has played on the left in Spain.

Another opportunity to progress was missed. WBA are a bog standard team with standard 2 bus tactics who should be put to the sword by the talent available to RM.
