Roberto Martinez discussion

I actually think now that this thread says a lot more about posters on here than Martinez himself.

If we had won yesterday (and but for an insane performance from their defence + a looping header we would have) then posters would be saying;

"3 pts off 5th won 4 in a row and Bournemouth next to be shredded".

Instead its "sack the manager".

Absolutely ridiculous.

As for the players, theyre mostly here because of Martinez, Lukaku says hes looking forward to next season as well and Barkley is pretty much Englands best player...so much hard work done by Martinez and hes getting this animosity.

Other than Leicester (Freak season like we had under moyes finishing 4th), Watford (happy to stay up) and Spurs ( who have had money to spend on top internationals and are 2 seasons in development ahead of us) no clubs fans are happy this season.

Totally illogical to want him out when we are so close now. I am in Asia watching streams but think alot of the bile is due to our home record being poor and fans being upset about that and spending money and time just to see the team not win.

Well, its been far worse than that before and we are about to turn a corner.

These truly are exciting times to be an Evertonian.10th place in the league on 35 points with a squad that should have been up there competing with Leicester and Spurs for the title never mind actually challenging for a champions league place.Oh the excitement of it all.Of course the pro Martinez crew are still talking about excuses and talking about corners being turned and all that.Yeah yeah whatever. It seems to me that Everton at the moment both manager and players and certain fans is just empty and cheap talk. The great Everton squads of the 60's and 80's did their talking where it actually mattered on the pitch.I think it's fair to say that talking into account that we finished 11th last season and failed to make a credible attempt at qualifying for the top 4 that our manager and players keep going on about this season that we have failed in the league for two seasons in a row.Just like we failed in Kiev last year and the Etihad a few weeks ago. Oh dear im going to be called a hater, keyboard assassin and a kopite provocateur from the pro Martinez crew for this but if that's the price for having an opinion i'll take it.

This forum become a joke. Can't stand it anymore. Just whine whine whine whine.
This Manager certainly does divide the fan base.
My concern is there is no accountability for performance at Everton. Nobody holding the Manager accountable and that flows down to the players.
No mongrel element in the Manager and again that flows down to the soft players.

Quite agree with your comments UOTE="Zatara, post: 4218489, member: 9780"]I actually think now that this thread says a lot more about posters on here than Martinez himself.

Mate we'd hit the post a couple of times and any rational football fan watching that would bet Everton would turn it around.

Lennon was missing for most of the second half. I can see why he came off. The only difference is I'd have put Deulofeu in his place.

Deulofeu did come on for Lennon mate

Lennon looked completely goosed in the second half and was nowhere near as involved (which is maybe why our second half performance was so much worse).

The thing with Gerry and Kone is that they are not impact subs, both play well from the start of matches, both have little effect when coming on and both should have started today against a team that clearly had absolutely no intention of ever attacking us.

Deulofeu has turned a fair few games coming off the bench - in fact his first season with us he did so memorably at Arsenal, this season he kept us in the league cup coming off the bench

As for Kone how many games has he played well from the start of a match

utter rubbish

You know guys, and I am in the keep Roberto for now camp by the way, but the argument "if we had won this game we'd only he 3 points from 5th" actually does the Manager a disservice.
We've used this one too many times to justify the same issues repeated one too many times.

I thought we played well we won't be the first and last club to lose to a smash and grab. Kone was brought on to try and make space for lukaku,Osman was brought on to create chances, the sub's didn't work but sometimes subs don't work.

I didn't see much of Lennon in the second half mate.

Because Pullis shifted their team shape over to that side mate, we had nothing coming down the left with Cleverley not a natural winger, once Kone came on that imbalance became much more extreme, it actually was the exact opposite of what we needed to do, we needed to try to stretch them out give ourselves more width by bringing on a natural wide player on the left whilst Lennon was on the right.

We became really one dimensional and as such much much easier to defend against with each sub made, subs and tactically Martinez got absolutely schooled by Pullis of all people yesterday, I like a lot of things about Martinez but he does seem to have his ideas of what he wants to happen in a game and how he visualizes things working and ignores whats actually happening on the pitch.

Do i think we should sack him, nope, there isn't really any point at this stage, the season is to all intents and purposes a dead duck, we won't win the FA cup as we are too inconsistent and all the big clubs are left in it (probably still will be at the quarters stage), the league is meh - we won't go down - and really unlikely to be able to qualify for Europe now - again down to having no consistency. Plus whose really available right now to come in - some re tread manager whose no better - no thanks.

At the end of the season though serious reflection and judgement needs to go on about if he is the right man for the job still, their will be more options for the job around during the summer for sure, possibility that new owners will make a change as well - more likely if they have someone involved in the takeover who knows the game ofc.

Will be honest - If this season continues the way it has been so far - especially the home form then I hope he does get shifted and will say right now I'd take AVB in as a replacement - not the most breathtaking football we'd ever see - but a good manager nonetheless, one similar to Ranierri in the fact he got a lot of stick from the English press due to his time at Chelsea - but one whose been a success nearly every club he has been at and is a league above Martinez tactically
