the way the game was today, baines probably should have came on for Oviedo - the theory of oviedo starting as he is better defensively and faster was mute as our lb was basically playing as a winger all game, get the player on who can create

Yep probably agree.

My main criticism with Martinez would probably be he lacks a 'Plan B' when he needs it in a game.

I think he's brilliant at setting up a team from he start if you know what I mean (e.g. Stoke last week being completely different to Newcastle), but does lack when he needs to change a game/style to get through.

That being said, we still created loads, but it just seemed destined that we weren't going to score - that's down to the attackers on the field.

I'll just say this.

Everybody but Rom played well in the first 11.

Kone came on because he draws attention away from Rom and in the past they worked well together. He offers a better presence in the box. It is the very definition of a Plan B. If you don't recognize that I don't know what to say.

Osman came in because he has good ball control in and around the 18. Kev is better in the break where he can use his pace.

maybe taking Lennon off could be criticized but Gerry was providing good service as well. Sometimes you don't get the luck. It's not like we played crap. Frustrated yes but not like stoke last season where we played absolute garbage

Oviedo and Barry provided decent balls from the left and Oviedo was basically playing as a wide mid as soon as Kone came in because we had all of the ball.

Barkley didn't finish well. He basically was in on goal alone and skied it. Our finishing was far more the problem than anything to do with the manager.

I think the main criticism you could have is the Barry / McCarthy pairing staying for the game when it was reasonably obvious what Pulis was going to do. Against teams that sit back and look to counter at pace (ie: most of them), one of the two (I would say Barry) should really make way.

Trying to break down 10 men behind the ball is tough. The first half showed that using width and trying to get behind their fullbacks was the key. The second half showed that putting diagonal lofted balls into their box was pretty clueless stuff. All of Lennon, Deulofeu and Mirallas needed to be out there at the same time. No need for Barry and McCarthy to be out there after 70 mins, their role in the game had gone.

I'd argue that Kone breaks down more attacks than he helps and the opposition don't consider him a danger.

I'd also argue that leaving Lennon and and having Deulofeu either on the left (The Cleverly sub) or in the middle (the Osman sub) would have posed more threat. Lennon best player on the pitch and still able to run in behind, with Deulofeu either on the other flank to split the threat or picking out the balls he does through the middle.

Pienaar on the left (or centre), Mirallas on the left (or centre) or Baines all would have been my preference to Kone. I saw him break down at least 4 of our attacks in his first 10 minutes on the pitch either through terrible ball control or woeful decision making.

We were bad but if PULIS ever came near Everton, I would start watching crown green bowls.
Horrible anti football spoiling negative tactic [Poor language removed]

He's good at what he does, and he loves doing that at Goodison. Our style at home is basically his bread and butter. The scabby cap-wearing wool.

He is too insistent on keeping the shape and seems to almost pre plan what substitutes he has in his mind going into a game and doesn't deviate depending on the style of the game

....don't knock what he achieved today, indeed I would hope RM learns from the experience. If we had that shape once we got ahead in certain away games this season we'd be in a far better position. Don't knock Pulis, learn from his strengths.

This game showed how we haven't really progressed since last season. We played a 0-0 at home to them last season and they defended exactly the same and we weren't good enough to break them down. Typical.

Would agree there.

Think his tactics were sound today up until the 60th minute.

Again, I could see the logic in then bringing a player on to help Rom out, but God knows why Niasse wasn't even on the bench. Kone just ins't up to it.

Get out of Howard's ringpiece mate, Joel played okay and wasn't at fault for that goal
To be fair, that's exactly the kind of goal people have been slaughtering Howard for all season. Caught in no man's land on a cross into the six yard box and ends up falling into the goal after being wrong footed. Doesn't mean we need to put Howard back into the side or anything -- it's going to take much worse than that to make that worthwhile -- but just a bit of perspective.
