Roberto Martinez discussion

If we do simple things well we will be a good team, we will be mid-table and may get a couple of cup runs. If we do complicated things that other teams can't cope with we can become a very good team who may win things.
I'm not advocating Stones dribbling in the box but I do believe he can carry the ball out of defence and set up play. I think he has been lambasted enough for that dribble, let's not stop him doing what makes him a special talent for one mistake.

Roberto is till young enough to learn. He'll never say anything in public, but maybe he will realise that when fans are so against Stones dribbling in his own six yard box and Howard never catching the ball and making numerous howlers it's because they KNOW SOMETHING. A lot of Everton fans are knowledgeable, and the arrogance of Martinez has come close to costing him his job. He has assembled a decent squad, and they just need to do the simple things. Leicester have proven this season that doing the simple things can have huge impact.

Now if he can keep the team doing the simple things, and not mess about with it, it might not be another 18 months before we win 2 league games in a row again.

I couldn't disagree more about this sentence.

Replace "knowledgable" with "having an opinion". And the manager has never been close the losing his job.

He got the job based on a long term vision. The board bought into that and backed his desire to bring in quality young players who needed developing.

Is professional sport the only job where people who can't do your job tell you how you should be doing it.

Nope.

I guarantee almost every person posting on this forum will, at some point, have complained about how their management at work ( or teachers at school ) run the place and will have expressed an opinion on how it could be done better. Any decent boss will listen to what other people are saying, regardless of their qualifications and not just reject criticism out of hand.

Really solid set up today. We looked like a team that knew what we were doing, and knew how to defend as a unit - that's not happened too often under Martinez has it ? That plus the quality and pace of Barkley, Lennon and Lukaku when we countered made us look a really good side.

It's all there, we just have to do it match in match out for 90 minutes, every game.
Exactly what the plotters have been asking for ,unfortunately it has taken 18 months for our manager to grasp the nettle. That said it is refreshing to know that Roberto reeds this forum and was humble enough to take the free advise that he was offered. He now knows if ever he has a problem in the future, the solution is close at hand

Exactly he listened and acted at last.
The plotters should be taking credit for the little run we are now on.
If you are tuning in roberto no more flappy

I thought that the argument was not that change was needed, but that Roberto could not deliver it.

If Roberto had taken the advice he found on this site, he wouldn't still be here.

But surely if it's your manager you are in the same business So you are involved in the company business an understand it as a professional. Not played a couple of games of subutio and think you're a formation wizard. Moaning, yes. But telling Ross Barkley what he needs to do to improve. Football is easy when elevated in the stand when you can see the whole pitch, it's a bit different at ground level when the speed of the game is 100 miles an hour.

The pure irony of people creaming themselves over our first back to back league wins in 10 months and calling other people knee jerkers...

All the last couple of games has done for me is reinforce my view that Robles and Lennon should have played more games, and we have the ability to win plenty of games in this league. The fact that our manager has belatedly cottoned on to these things does not change my opinion of his performance on the whole.

That said, I've been consistent in my view that a sustained upturn in form would change my feelings, and if we go on to finish 8th or higher my criticisms will be limited. Any lower and I'll still feel the season has been little short of a shambles.
