Roberto Martinez discussion

It really makes you wonder, why has it taken Martinez until the 24th league game against Newcastle to shake things up. Howard was finished last season stones should have been 'rested' and take him out of the firing line as soon as jagielka got fit. And the biggest injustice of all we have seen Lennon get splinters sat on the bench all season, whilst Kone has shown all season (bar one game against Sunderland) why he isn't an Everton footballer. Same again next week Roberto.

the trouble with so many football supporters now is that they're conditioned to equate "the manager needs improvement in certain areas" with "unacceptable! he has to be sacked immediately!!!!!"

this very rarely actually solves any problems though... it just changes what the problems are, and in the long term, leads to much more serious challenges. teams in the habit of sacking the manager every 6 months, changing the entire system, spending a fortune each window on getting the replacement "his" players while benching his predecessor's favourites, and basically operating in a state of permanent crisis, are teams that are always much worse than we are while spending infinitely more. it's much more complicated than the "take my cues from phone-in show belligerence" brigade are usually willing to acknowledge.

We've had three years, not 6 months, to make a call on Martinez though. If the call is that he's not up to it, why would you persevere with that manager ?

12 points from the next 5 games means 4 wins. Well, we might win more, we might win less.

We don't need to set fixed targets - we just need to continue our improved results.

Let's see how Bournemouth get on this afternoon.

Hopefully by the time the cup comes round Bournemouth are fully focused on survival. I don't know about setting targets, I think it is more about going from match to match at the moment. We need to focus on what we have done well over the last three games and work out why we are not conceding goals while still scoring. Concentrate on getting into a winning mentality and then access what we can achieve from the remainder of the season.
This is a time for "steady as she goes", I don't think we have turned a corner as yet, we have tweaked things and gotten better. Time to make minor adjustments and build on what we have.

Roberto is till young enough to learn. He'll never say anything in public, but maybe he will realise that when fans are so against Stones dribbling in his own six yard box and Howard never catching the ball and making numerous howlers it's because they KNOW SOMETHING. A lot of Everton fans are knowledgeable, and the arrogance of Martinez has come close to costing him his job. He has assembled a decent squad, and they just need to do the simple things. Leicester have proven this season that doing the simple things can have huge impact.

Now if he can keep the team doing the simple things, and not mess about with it, it might not be another 18 months before we win 2 league games in a row again.

Given most of the input from fans that he receives would be during the games, and that many fans tend to moan and whinge when our young local star Barkley makes a mistake, I think he probably pays very very little attention to what they might know.
