Roberto Martinez discussion

It'd be nice to think he dropped Howard and Stones for form reasons, not injury. If so, it's a great managerial call. If not, it's just really good fortune. Stones will be back to his best, but he got too cocky and needs to learn he's not the be all end all of centre halves quite yet.

That said, it was the right team selection no matter how he came to it. I was confused by his lack of subs, as the game was crying out for Deulofeu at 1-0 to discourage them swamping forward, but at this point you just accept Martinez is going to be odd with subs.

The key now is getting a run of games together. He has no excuses - that's a talented squad and there's now zero pressure on them with the season more or less dead.

Can't complain about anything tonight, goals, clean sheet and a win

Keep this up against better sides for the rest of the season and I might just be won over again

I thought he needed to freshen it up a bit with about twenty minutes to go as we looked a little leggy. I'd like to think he knew we could withstand any pressure and decided against the change, and so it showed! Good selection and good tactics tonight, just need to make sure we're ready for the weekend and he doesn't just play the same team because we won tonight.

Both result and performance were just what the doctor ordered. Manager got it right tonight, but you would ask him to against Newcastle at home

Key is stringing results together. Get a win Saturday and we might just go on a bit of a run.

The problem with Martinez is that every so often he pulls the rabbit out the hat and gets things so right. The lineup and formation was spot on today and wasn't what I would have guessed. Admittedly the opposition were abysmal and shall hopefully be relegated.
If he could just do this more often instead of being totally predictable most the time.
2 and a half seasons he's been here and I'm still not sure if he's any good or not

Good win tonight against a poor team, I would like to see us chase teams and put pressure on the opposition instead of dropping off.

All in all happy with 3 points.
The problem is that when it gets to about 70 minutes our midfield looks shattered. (It isn't just Deulofeu.) A lot depends on if our forwards are in a mood to press as well, which is why I am hopeful about the Niasse signing.
