Tim Howard

Can't think of anyone playing every game though and for so long. Neville comes close but at least there was the (weak) excuse of him also being captain.

Isnt Howard captain sometimes? I know Jags is Primary and I remember seeing Barry recently but didnt Howard have the armband for a bit?

Soon as we can get shut of Martinez only then will the keeper situation be addressed. He has really backed himself into a corner with this one, i can see Howard being at the club next season myself.

Martinez has backed him so much if he goes now Roberto knows he will look an idiot and wrong all along, his face is more important to him then our results.

This is the worry. If he thinks Howard is so good our next keeper will be the lad Bogdan and Martinez will think he's pulled of a coup.

Yes thats a good point in the 2nd half Britton?or Routledge of Swansea burst through on our right hand side and had a cross shot Howard had already decided to go on his backside he saved it and the commentator stated great save - if Britton or Routledge had waited a split second a little chip and it was 3-1, its a trait in that super game he had in the world cup in which he saved many many shots MOTM etc but pundit like him or loath him Alan Shearer pointed out Tim goes down to ground far to early and if he was playing he would simply wait those seconds to loft the ball over him!
since that coverage have teams sussed him out - it's not a great save imo if you fall down early and virtually sit on the ball!
The way he is playing now though I take any save he makes his main problem is his positioning his unsettling our defence!

been pointing it out for a couple of years. Every deflection seems to end up in our net with him lying on the floor.

When you break down his traits, you do wonder how he's had such a successful career. He's always been purely a shot stopper, and i'm fully aware i'm pointing these out despite never being a keeper or anywhere close to resembling a football player, but:

He's not commanding,
He doesn't collect crosses,
He stands way too far off his line which means he's early to curl the ball around from distance,
He's slow to come off his line when he actually needs to,
He dives out of the way of the ball when facing one on ones;
this contributes to him being beaten at his near post more than any top keeper i've seen
He slices a lot of kicking clearances into touch
and goes to ground way to quickly leaving large gaps in his goal

All true unfortunately, can't wait to see the back of him, but kinda feel for him at the same time, just not a nice way to finish up a career

The leeway that Howard has had beats me. He has been getting away with murder for years.

He has been involved in numerous cock-ups that few managers would tolerate. Duffgoals that come to mind include
the Sunderland home defeat when he plays a short ball to Osman who had Ki on top of him and then brings Ki down.
Or that Adebayor goal at Spurs where he is beaten on his near side from distance. There's loads more but nothing happens. RM must fail to mention them because there has been no let up in Howard's play.

For years I wondered how Don Revie and the Leeds fans tolerated Gary Sprake but now we have exactly the same case. A crap keeper who makes mistake after mistake but still gets picked.
