Why are West Ham obsessed with us?

Known alot of West Ham fans over the years and they've all been sound. Also worth mentioning some of the fans in the "chicken run" were applauding us when we were singing "money can't buy me stones" in the game at their place this season.

And trying to laud it over them for *only* winning the FA Cup a few times is embarrassing. Thats *THE* cup competition in this country.

If this topic was discussing Arsenal and Everton then i'd agree with that, but it's West Ham. Despite our lack of success in the past 20 years we've still been far superior to West Ham in just about every way. Saying they're now above us because they're potentially going to finish ahead of us for the first time in years is short sighted. Are Leicester suddenly a better option to achieve success than Man United and Chelsea?

I'm not basing it solely on where they currently are in the league and I can't see that we've been far superior in just about every way. WHU are, at the moment, looking like a club with a better chance of progression, and with it possible success, in the next few years. I'm not sure that's the case at Everton. I've no way of knowing whether I'm right or wrong and things can change quickly in football but Byram had the choice to make on what's happening at both clubs now and how it best serves his career. I still see no reason why a neutral would consider us a step above West Ham.

The Leicester statement doesn't tally with what I said. Both Man Utd and Chelsea have a proven recent record of consistently investing huge amounts in getting success and making changes when it doesn't arrive. There is a clear gulf in the reputation and the resources available to them and Leicester.

If Leicester suddenly received massive backing, Citeh style, then they too would be a good proposal for long term success - as it stands they aren't a better option over the next few years.

They really are an odd bunch. Like Newcastle they seem to have this strange, unshakeable believe that they're one of the big boys despite having never won a league title or a global brand to speak of. Their owners suit them down to a tee, absolute bell-whiffs who have silly delusions.

Whatchoo talking about, Wilis?

They are the only club side in history to have won the World Cup.

You can't get any bigger than that ;)

A 12 page thread on why west ham are obsessed with Everton on an Everton forum?...... Erm ok lol

I bet they havent got a thread about us on their forum, but they're the ones who are obsessed. This thread is embarassing - its West Ham ffs!

Since 2000 West Ham's best finish in the PL has been 9th on 2 occasions. In that time they have played 3 seasons in the second tier. We've had a 4th placed finish and numerous 5th, 6th and 7th placed finishes. We've played in Europe for quite a few seasons and got out of the group stage most of the time. Since 2006, they've played us 21 times in all competitions and beat us twice. We've won 12 of those games. Personally I feel we have a dominance over them similar to what the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea have over us.

One seasons where they are a few points ahead of us doesn't mean anything.

The new stadium etc is a valid point that I won't argue with, but for a long time now, we've been far superior to them on the pitch in the PL era, and over history there has been an even bigger gulf.

Nothing there puts a medal on your shelf or reinforces a clubs reputation as big. Numerous top 7 finishes don't make footballing folklore. The European games have been predominantly UEFA Cup which I value but others maybe don't. It's Europe's 2nd tier. Having a good run of results against a team doesn't really matter in the long run as those few games are all a very small part of what you're ultimately striving for.

What we've been over the last few years is a reasonably good side who seem to have slipped up both this season and last. West Ham have been garbage, relegated, improved, promoted and shown progress over this season and last - when they finished below us, their dominant superiors, only on goal difference.

The bigger club aspect is irrelevant. Both teams are nothing more than also rans in the PL era regardless of how superior we've been and glorious history doesn't matter a jot to what happens in the future.

I think we're in agreement on a few of the points you've made. I understand what you are getting at but it was more this part of your original point that I didn't agree with:

"Yes - West Ham were worse for much of that time but now they're above Everton"

I took that to mean that they've now surpassed us after half a good season.

West Ham have been a nothing club for years. They may or may not finish above us this season and squad wise I think ours is far better. We are bringing quality youth players through and have consistently finished in the top 8 in the past 10 seasons, which they haven't even managed once. I don't see us suddenly behind them.

The Stadium and their future is a valid point, but the same could be said for them in comparison to Liverpool, but I doubt anyone would accept that West Ham is a step up to going there either. In a few seasons I do think they will be the new media favorite though, especially if they get taken over.

It's pretty clear that the two main reasons he joined them was due to being first choice and his family connection to West Ham. Don't have a problem with it.
