Why are West Ham obsessed with us?

So yet another player choses west ham over us. They must know something we don't. Obviously the lure of them becoming a bigger club and no longer our equal is doing a number on us. Wish we had their owners ambition

I think we're in agreement on a few of the points you've made. I understand what you are getting at but it was more this part of your original point that I didn't agree with:

"Yes - West Ham were worse for much of that time but now they're above Everton"

I took that to mean that they've now surpassed us after half a good season.

West Ham have been a nothing club for years. They may or may not finish above us this season and squad wise I think ours is far better. We are bringing quality youth players through and have consistently finished in the top 8 in the past 10 seasons, which they haven't even managed once. I don't see us suddenly behind them.

The Stadium and their future is a valid point, but the same could be said for them in comparison to Liverpool, but I doubt anyone would accept that West Ham is a step up to going there either. In a few seasons I do think they will be the new media favorite though, especially if they get taken over.

It's pretty clear that the two main reasons he joined them was due to being first choice and his family connection to West Ham. Don't have a problem with it.

No, the main reason he and ogbonna chose them over us is they are going places and will soon no longer be our equal but a lot bigger.

Very uncomfortable even having this discussion, half the people on here seem as obsessed with them and not the other way round as the thread title suggests. They are not our equals regardless of a London location or brand new stadium, stop talking about them Period. They will eventually fall away as they always do.

I have been watching football for the best part of 32 years and have never seen West Ham win anything or have consistency at the top level. Same as Stoke.

The reason players choose elsewhere is for gametime or family reasons.

The only right back that West Ham have is Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal.

Byram practically guaranteed a starting berth... made the choice for footballing reasons and that's great to see. Not sure why this has spiralled into a 'my daddy could beat up your daddy' scenario.

I currently live in the East End and don't come across many West Ham fans, though Upton Park has been sold out the few times I have been there.

I think any discussion in which we are compared with West Ham simply comes down to this:

They are a big club but need to win a fair bit before it can be properly discussed.

Have you not seen the advertisements for Kenwrights next production? It's an on-stage porno...
