Bryan Oviedo

Stones isn't as bad at RB as people make out, besides this season we're not reliant on our fullbacks getting forward to create chances so we'd probably be quite solid with Stones at RB.

That said I actually think Martinez is just trying to keep Stones happy by not playing him at RB if that is the case on Wednesday.

I'd be happy enough to see either him or Oviedo play there.
Stones isn't bad at RB but by playing him there you are weakening two positions. Leave him CB where he belongs and get fullback cover elsewhere, we have the depth.

Stones played RB in the second half against Norwich and was class. But his best position is CB so we might as well keep him there unless we have no other option.

If Bryan can prove his fitness I think he's more than capable of slotting in at RB while Coleman is out. If he picks up another nasty injury, though, then we may need to go out and make a purchase.

Would you rather see Stones out of position and Funes Mori starting or Oviedo out of position and Funes Mori on the bench? Either way, you've got someone at right back who isn't in their natural position, and Funes Mori's in better form right now than Oviedo.

Funes-Mori also took a nasty blow yesterday and it's doubtful he'll play vs. City.

Also, RM pretty much confirmed in his pre-match presser on Friday that he doesn't want to put Stones at right back as he feels it wastes his qualities.

Oviedo played well yesterday and he is a full-back. He's versatile and can play on the right hand side - he has done before - albeit in midfield. If he decides to go with Oviedo and Ovideo can keep fit, it's a smart move.

Stones has a lot more experience at right back than Oviedo does, though. I understand the reasoning; I just don't agree with it, especially because Oviedo has a bad recent history when playing twice in less than a week. I think we're stronger with Stones at right back and Jagielka and Funes Mori (or even Jagielka and Galloway) in the middle than Stones and Jagielka in the middle and any of our other healthy options (Oviedo, Pennington, Kenny) at right back.

Do you necessarily need experience at RB to be a good RB? Wouldn't being a fullback in general give you that experience? It's taking a mirror image of what Oviedo had been doing for years. Stones might have played more RB but Oviedo has FAR more experience at fullback.

Made up to hear he played well yesterday. I like him and I think he's good enough to be (at worst) a very useful squad player. I'm not sure if that'll be enough for him to though, and fair enough if it isn't.

It'd be a shame to see him go for free as if he was fit, in form and had a longer contract we could get some decent money for him.

All depends on how well Garbutt is getting on, in my opinion.

I really think we'll offer him an extension - I think we definitely will if he has a run of games in the first team at right back now.

If Oviedo was as good with his right foot as his left foot, sure, but playing fullback on your weaker foot's side is much different than playing on your stronger foot's side.

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with his right foot.
Scored a goal for us against Stoke with his right peg & yesterday whipped in a few decent balls with his right.
I never said there's anything wrong with his right. His left is stronger, though, and I don't think anyone would argue differently. I don't think there's any reason to think he couldn't do a job at right back with some practice, but it still takes a period of adjustment, just because it involves actions he isn't quite used to doing instinctively yet.

Lots of good full backs have operated on their so called 'wrong side.' Irwin and Lahm are two who spring to mind. Defensively he has nothing to do that he doesn't have to do at left back. It's attacking wise where the worry is, but Bryan has shown he can cross with his right, which actually might be a strength for us, as what does the opposition do? He can whip it in with his right, or he can cut inside on his stronger foot.

No problems with him playing there at all.

Not only that, with Gerard hugging the outside they'd have no idea what to cover.
