Joel Robles

You know when someone is near an explosion and staggers to their feet concussed with only a ringing sound in their ears and they look around confused unable to get their bearings?

That's everyone here who just read that.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Howard. He is a major weak point in our team, but throw in a lacking in experience keeper with confidence issues of his own against City in a cup semi final? No thanks.

Robles may just get his chance this month. Let's see if he plays on Wednesday, and what the score is.

Robles once put in a MOTM performance for Wigan and helped them lift the FA Cup against the very Man City we're playing on Wednesday. And that was a full-strength City team - Tevez, Aguero, Silva, even our own Gareth Barry played in that final. He has a lot of experience in these sorts of important cup matches - Howard, on the other hand, does not.

Oh my, another myth. He wasn't man of the match at all.

If it's experience of important cup games, Howard wins hand down on that front. FA cup final appearances with us and United, League cup finals and semi finals appearances. International finals with the USA, using the experience argument for Robles is a moot point unfortunately.

FGS he was MOTM his save in the last minute penalty shoot out hero what do you want - blood!

Martinez has played Robles in a cup final, so I don't see why he would drop him for a semi final?

The same way he refuses to drop Howard in the league, I'd be extremely surprised if he didn't go with Robles on Wednesday.

The formal MOTM was Callum McManaman, now at West Brom. However, the Wigan team was full of heroes.

Roberto was without most of his defenders that day but managed to arrange his ragbag of players into a team - playing three at the back with two novice wingbacks - that matched City.

Goalkeeper Al-Habsi was another injured player but, oddly, he did make an appearance in the semifinal against Millwall.

We're all going to be absolutely gutted when he comes in and he's crap.

Howard is the problem but this guy is not the answer. Maybe as a very temporary solution but give it a few months and we'd be tearing our hair out over him as well.
