Roberto Martinez discussion

Right now it's difficult to see how we'll go through but stranger things have happened in football I suppose.

I can see us absolutely battering them in the first half of the first leg, but it's how many goals we have to show for it and whether it can be maintained for 90 minutes...
Bob has beaten city once. At Wembley.

Last season after we lost pitifully away to stoke we played direct and ground out wins. Hopefully that display was a similar catalyst and am earlier one. He does change tactics unfortunately it's usually after we have been pasted

I've repeatedly said that if we get to Wembley in the league cup then it will be one of our greatest recent results and a massive coup for Martinez. Assuming that we've made it there, or even won the thing when we have 180 mins v one of the top sides in Europe is jumping the gun slightly. Stoke and Leicester have put 7 past us at home and we've not won back to back for ages combined with Martinez never beating City with Everton. Let's praise people for actual achievements rather than potential ones.

Potential achievements have to start at some point to become actual achievements. According to some all the chips are stacked against us and yesterday would suggest that we haven't got a cat in hell's chance of beating City over 2 legs. We'll see.

The argument seems to have boiled down to those who want us to win and if it's pretty then that's a bonus against those that want us to look pretty and if we win that's a bonus.

18 wins in the last 57 league games tells me that the style isn't working, do we have a manager prepared to change in order to get results? Probably not. He Seems prepared to sacrifice Everton gaining points for a certain style of play.... admirable? Stubborn? Stupid?

I know he won't get sacked due to our boards lack of ambition and lack of care for the club in general from certain owners.

We are rudderless, this form continues and it will no longer be the voice of the minority that's fed up with him, it'll be the majority.

If we go back to playing the style we did under moyes, i will walk out of goodison and never go back.

That's why we got into Europe with him.
You may want to take note of the clean sheets we that season 16 I think in 38 games we have played around 70 games since the end of that season and haven't kept 16 since. You will not find a top manager that reckons you can win stuff or even achieve targets without a good defence and keeper we have good defenders but a terrible defence...who's fault is that, we have a keeper that has been subject to 18 months of scrutiny yet he is still NO.1. This jokers stubbornness is going to have a detrimental effect on our short term future.

A defensive coach given some real responsibility is a must. He has and never will be great at coaching defending.

.....defending isn't only about the back 4 or what we do when the opposition has set pieces, it's about what the totality of the team do when the opposition has the ball. I think this is the major problem, when McCarthy isn't available we have too many players caught in the top third when the opposition break. It leaves the back 4 totally exposed.

Think this bit has already happened. Of the people I go the match with, we had 1 who still supported RM. That changed to 0 yesterday

Please don't mate.

Yet again another fan who is using a worst case scenario to try and prove why Martinez should stay.

Why does it have to be Moyes, is that all This current squad with TV money to spend could attract? Is that what you think if this club? If so you may as well not go.

That's the problem in a nutshell IMO. We do not get close enough, we back off too much and this gives players time to control and pick a pass. I also think our midfield is easy to get through as they allow so much space for oncoming players by either backing off to our box or are caught up field. Our midfield is not combative enough and don't offer enough protection to the back 4. We defend very narrow allowing for crosses to come it at will and with no dominant defenders in the air and a goalie that is afraid of crosses makes a recipe for disaster. Going forward I have no complaints and its a joy to watch but we need plugs in the middle of the park and for defenders to be closer to there man so they don't have time to think and hurt us.

I think bringing Besic in or moving Barkley back so we have a midfield 3 and a front 3 of Delofeu Lukaku and Mirallas/Lennon would solve a lot of our defending if the attacks break down.

I take it you was a regular through the moyes era? It was boring football the majority of the time were we couldnt string 3 passes together.

Yes we have problems now, yes he is doing my head in with the howard situation, and we were unlucky that we have had to put two novice (for different reasons) centre halfs together. But think we are closer now than we ever was under moyes of being a top side.

This is true, but it doesn't account for the shipping of goals from set pieces or the lack of cohesion in the defensive unit which is obvious to anyone who's seen us play this season.

I wasn't regular towards the end, no. I'm not calling for Moyes back or Moyes type football, that's just a cheap cowardly shot that people use to convince themselves that anyone who doesn't want Martinez must want Moyes. It's nonsense, most of the time not even worthy of response. My knowledge of potential new managers (not that is ever going to happen) isn't good enough to do much suggesting, but this squad shouldn't of averaged 11th place over the past 18 months. Nothing will convince me of that.
