Roberto Martinez discussion

Because of their manager yes. Talent in the first 11? I don't see a huge collective difference. They have a better keeper I don't see any players to compare to Lukaku Barkley or Deulofeu never mind the two full backs. Kane is good but is not the same level as Lukaku for me. He's playing in a perfect system whereas Lukaku has scored for all the teams he's played for.

Regardless what our opinions are regarding them as individuals, they are undoubtedly a better collective unit. And yes of course they have a better manager, he's one of the best around

davek, davek, davek.

you're just like Martinez, you have a nice philosophy that you really, really, believe in, you weave pretty argumentative patterns and score a lot.

but you're not winning...except in your own mind
Very true. The only other comparison to be made would be about his followers that follow him from thread to thread telling him how right he is. I suppose they are to Dave what he is to Martinez.

Incredible, I've actually just seen George Best as an example of a top trainer. Unbelievable lol

Ah right, we're scrubbing over the thrashing in Kiev as well. Let's just whitewash the lot.

Hmm.. and what also marked out that side.... attacking flair built on superb foundations. Our foundations are currently built on paper-mache... your messiah decided to spend £9.5m on Funes Mori, look where that has got us.

You mean like a £450k centre-forward the season we finished fourth having had to sell the most gifted teenager in English football on transfer deadline day? Or his net spend of something like £10m across his time at the Club? Again, we've just spaffed nearly that up the wall on Funes Mori. We are currently being saved from true embarrassment by a £28m centre forward.

For every win at Old Trafford (one) we've got home defeats vs United (0-3) this season alone. Statistically even worse than the United side annihilated by the ginger biff! Let's not look at his record vs Liverpool or City. Or Palace at home... gulp.

Literally yesterday - less than 24 hours ago - Naismith did a backpass of similar ineptitude.

Games against teams in the top half this season - 10 games, 0 wins, 5 draws, 5 defeats. Seven of them at home. 'Have a go hero' Martinez really must be impressing those returning chaps like yourself. Is the booing a sort of post-modern ironic appreciation of some kind?

You're defeating yourself with your own examples here.

Oh dear. 'Returning chaps like yourself'. Says it all really. Enjoy your trip to Wembley this season. But I suppose that is post modern ironic appreciation of the 'messiah' that goes too far.

We now have Spurs, City and Chelsea on the run.

It is about to get a whole lot worse. What happened to that 'easy run'?
Wonder if the prospective buyers are looking at the fixture list. The way things are shaping the fact there are at least three dire teams in the division might influence the take over more than we do.

I don't think Martinez has the mentality for management at this level.

At Wigan, his faults were obvious, but they all wanted him to stay because he was the best they were going to get. They accepted everything that he did.

Here, things have been different. You can see that with Alcaraz. After he was released, you could see from Martinez's interviews that he wasn't happy with the decision, but he had no choice because he was so unpopular with the fans. If the fans had said nothing, Alcaraz would still be at this club, guaranteed.

It's a similar situation with Howard. Everyone can see he's like the single opened barrier in the flood defences of York. Yet Martinez doesn't know how to deal with fan pressure. He can't cope.

Ah, so you've dissolved into making no sense.

Never mind.

If Martinez remains as manager next season then it will be more of the same.

We're finished as a club trying for European places under him.

I've repeatedly said that if we get to Wembley in the league cup then it will be one of our greatest recent results and a massive coup for Martinez. Assuming that we've made it there, or even won the thing when we have 180 mins v one of the top sides in Europe is jumping the gun slightly. Stoke and Leicester have put 7 past us at home and we've not won back to back for ages combined with Martinez never beating City with Everton. Let's praise people for actual achievements rather than potential ones.

Absolutely. Best result since Royle's Cup win. We've got through four games to get here but have three games to go to win it.

Yesterday wasn't a great dress rehearsal for the ideal semi final though...

City have scored 29, conceded 12 at home.

Away? Scored 8, conceded 8

The home leg is absolutely absolutely massive

Right now it's difficult to see how we'll go through but stranger things have happened in football I suppose.

I can see us absolutely battering them in the first half of the first leg, but it's how many goals we have to show for it and whether it can be maintained for 90 minutes...
